Two SDR Console instances, each with perseus or RSP duo

FoxAcid01

Hello,

John Collins in Portland, Oregon here.

I realize this subject has been thrashed and rethrashed in various forms, however I haven't quite found coverage of my situation.  SDR Console V3 runs two instances perfectly if I run two distinctly different types of SDR but will not run two of the same type of SDR.

For example, I can run Perseus and G39DDC, Perseus and RSP Duo, G39DDC and DUO, etc BUT I cannot run Perseus and Perseus OR RSP DUO and RSP DUO.  Obviously, two identical SDR's will likely look identical with the exception of serial numbers.  So when I try two RSP DUO's I make extra sure to have two definitions each with distinctly unique serial number.   Same with Perseus.

Consider the Perseus:  I have serial 1089 and 3095 defined as Perseus 1 and 2 respectively.  The first instance with Perseus 1 runs just fine, however the second instance with Perseus two sets up the screen but stops prior to loading the second Perseus; there are no error messages.  The lower left corner receiver display show a generic Perseus but nothing more.  The software is running but the "select receiver" function is grayed out.  The software shuts down fine.

It's as if the second sdr gets half-loaded.  I had assumed that serial numbers would be used to differentiate between two identical sdr's; apparently I am wrong(?)  I expect I can side-step this issue with two separate installations of SDR Console rather than two instances of the single install.

So, anyone have a solution?  May I draw from the body of knowledge on this group, please.  Is the SDR serial number actually used to ID a given SDR?

many thanks

John Collins

Give the radio definitions unique names.

Ah,

They do have unique names, sorry. To run two instances, use two identities, this way the instances are unique.

Thank you, Simon.  So at the end of the day, the sdr serial number is not involved with any unique-ness among sdr's(?).  The unique ID route is actually pretty handy.

I am not sure where you got this impression. SDR front end serial numbers are used internally. But, apparently, the editable name you give the the definition is the way you're apparently expected to address them, easily, when selecting the front end. However, the definitions with their different software reported serial numbers can be distinguished from each other in the selection dialog.

You MUST, however, run each dialog in its own instance of the program. Otherwise at the very least the saved configuration data for the instance used twice will get all balled up.
