There are 6 of the Startech 4 port USB cards (as recommended by Simon) currently on ebay.co.uk for a Buy It Now price of £20 each.
They are used but represent a large saving over the new price of around £100.

Thanks for that - have ordered one!

I fitted a cheap USB3 card to the shack PC and it works, but the quality of the sockets is not good and I can lose connections if I accidentally shift cables - hopefully this will be better...

You'll need to source a power lead for the card if you want to take advantage of the 900mA feed from each port.

Only three cards left now. :-)

It looks like it just takes a normal disk power connector, doesn't it?

Thanks for heads up, Bought a card - is power lead something special?

I can't honestly remember and the pc isn't handy right now, but I doubt it.

All ten of the cards have sold now.

Hello Dan and Martin

The StarTech datasheet for this card states the following

For high-power USB devices, this PCIe USB 3.0 card includes an optional SATA or LP4 power connector to connect to your system power supply and deliver up to 900mA of power per port to USB 3.0 bus-powered devices (500mA for USB 2.0). The USB 3.0 card also supports USB Battery Charging Specification 1.2 (Apple Mode only), letting you charge compatible Apple devices (iPhones and iPads) faster than a standard USB 3.0 port.
