Simon's World Map problems following update

Simon Brown

Hi,

Just checked here and the layouts appear to be working OK. I assume you're using 1.3.7?

As a simple test, change the Home locator for three layouts, restart the program and see if they stick.

I'll read this part of the source code in case I see something.

Bespoke layouts are no longer saved. This means that nothing is saved whether it is the size and colour of text used, setting the home location even anchoring the long and short path to my home location is no longer possible rendering this function useless. But nice to have DST figures

No. It doesn't. The really odd thing is that the Short and Long path seems to have decided that I am living in the middle of The Gulf of Guinea. Whilst this may be a good idea given the weather at the moment, It is not the case. This is despite the fact that I have changed the home location to where I actually live.

Hi,

Show me the Home Location window, then show me a screenshot so I can see where the icon is.

One of the layouts has now saved all of my changes. Not sure what if anything I did differently, but hopefully this one will last.

Simon Brown

Hi,

I am wondering whether you have:
  • Write access to the folder: C:\Users\<User>\AppData\Roaming\Simon's World Map where <User> is your Windows Username.
  • The disk where the folder is located is working properly.
  • Whether you maybe have anti-virus software stopping files being written.

Don't think it can be any of these issues as the previous versions worked fine. The layout which was saving my details has now decided to play up. Please find attached screenshots showing 4 of the 5 layouts. Layout 3 is the great circle map and I find that very useful.
On the first image, my home location and graphic settings are saved but according to long and short path I am living in The Gulf of Guinea. Hopefully the salt water will aid DXing.
On the second image both home location and short and long path are correct but the graphic changes I made have not been saved.
On the 3rd image Home location is recorded but I am back in The Gulf of Guinea for long and short path and again my graphic preferences are not saved.
According to the layout on the 4th Image I am living in your house. How do you like your tea?

I wonder if you must save each setup individually? Or are you well past that check?

Hi,

Please do the following:
  • Select a layout, use only this layout.
  • Show me the window where you enter the home lat/lon.
  • Attach a screenshot for this layout, I want to confirm that the home icon is correctly positioned.
  • Restart the program, confirm that the home icon is correctly positioned.
You must attach the screenshot, don't past it into the text.

That is not attached. It is unreadable You MUST attach it rather than include it the text stream with VERY few exceptions. (My stuff seems to appear in line full size. I use Thunderbird for email. Most other methods, particularly web mail, screw it all up.)

Hi,

This I need to see what it's not working, good luck and please trust me when I say there may be a disk issue, it's either that or finger trouble.

That is not attached. It is put in as part of the message body. It is tiny. It is unreadable. Attach it to the message full size as a separate file.

Downloaded the update. So far it's working great. Like the new time zone format.

Simon Brown

🙂

I found the issue you had more-or-less by chance, was bad (incorrect) programming. I also like the time zone change - my aim is always very, very low CPU/GPU use so new features / changes have to be implementented with care.

The nr4 is closed on constant tone (carrier) but opens if carrier goes on off (just test it on qo100 beacon)...
No idea if that helps....
DECODING cw is another different thing cause speeds may change and a hand given signal may be even more difficult to decode.. Not to mentiin noise etc.

Yet I made one come very close to working in the late 70s on a SOL PC. I wish I could remember what I did besides put a 1 bit A/D on the radio's speaker output. I got lucky - if there was only one signal to copy within the filter bandwidth.
