SDR Console to SDR Server Connection Problem #sdrserver

Hello,

 

I'm having trouble maintaining a connection between SDR Console and SDR Server over my home network. The connection between the client PC and server PC is initially established but quickly disconnects, connecting long enough for:

- client: SDR Console/Radio Definitions/Search/V3 Server to find the server/radio

- client: SDR Console/Select Radio/Connect connects long enough to receive the content of the Welcome message

- server: SDR Server Manager registers the IP address of the client in the SDR Server Manager Security line.

The last lines of the SDR Server Manager/Log... are:

The status line at the very bottom of SDR Console (client) shows the selected radio on the left and the server status "Remote server connection time (maximum allowed)" field on the right with a value of 0. This 0 value would seem to be the smoking gun, but regardless of the non-zero value I use in SDR Server Manager, the client reports 0 (and doesn't stay connected). In SDR Server Manager I've tried removing and installing the server, stopping and starting the server, and rebooting the server and client PCs with no change in operation.

 

Port forwarding has been enabled on my Router for the server PC. Windows Defender Firewall on each PC has been configured to allow SDR Console or Server app to communicate through the firewall for both Private and Public networks.

 

I am having this same problem with three different client PCs, two are Windows 10 connected via WiFi, and a third is Windows 7 connected via Ethernet. The server PC is Windows 10 connected via Ethernet. SDR Console works just fine on the server PC when connected over USB to my RTL-SDR Dongle. SDR Console also works on one of the client Windows 10 PCs when directly connected to the RTL-SDR Dongle via USB (with the appropriate radio definition).

I've seen a couple other postings that appear to be the same or a similar issue but haven't seen a solution. Hopefully I'm adding some more detail to the issue that will help get it resolved. If there is other useful information that I can supply, please let me know.

Hi,

 

Firewall or antivirus I think, the clue being Select: No client activity for 20 seconds, closing. So messages from the Client (console) aren’t getting through.

 

Does this make sense?

Thanks Simon.  The issue doesn't appear to be firewall related.  I have been able get it working for the two lowest bandwidths, 250kHz and 300kHz.  Anything bandwidth above this (1MHz or greater) causes the connection failure.  Server is reporting only a CPU utilization of about 1% when successfully connected at 300kHz.  The WiFi data speed between my the client PCs and the server is as follows; the max bandwidth is 300kHz for either of these WiFi connections:

WiFi TCP speed (2.4MHz band) to SDR Server PC: 42 Mbit/s
WiFi TCP speed (5MHz band) to SDR Server PC: 86 Mbit/s

The data rate for even for the highest (stable) bandwidth of 2.4MHz for the RTL-SDR Dongle should be well under these WiFi speeds, particularly with compression enabled.

Ah,

 

This is either a network issue (bandwidth) or CPU. Make sure you don’t have compression enabled for WAN and I assume you’re not using Wi-Fi?

Thanks Simon.  The issue doesn't appear to be firewall related.  I have been able get it working for the two lowest bandwidths, 250kHz and 300kHz.  Anything bandwidth above this (1MHz or greater) causes the connection failure.  Server is reporting only a CPU utilization of about 1% when successfully connected at 300kHz.  The WiFi data speed between my the client PCs and the server is as follows; the max bandwidth is 300kHz for either of these WiFi connections:

WiFi TCP speed (2.4MHz band) to SDR Server PC: 42 Mbit/s
WiFi TCP speed (5MHz band) to SDR Server PC: 86 Mbit/s

The data rate for even for the highest (stable) bandwidth of 2.4MHz for the RTL-SDR Dongle should be well under these WiFi speeds, particularly with compression enabled.
