RTL-SDR and HF reception
David Slipper
I have just received an RTL-SDR V3 dongle and I would like to use it on the HF bands.
Looking around I have found a comment that I need a package called "ExtIO module" to do this. However, I notice that the latest SDR-Console has a button called "HF mode" and a choice of "Quadrature" mode. Is this the same ??? Do I need to have the "ExtIO" package as well ??? Sorry if this is a bit of a newbie question. Thanks in advance, Dave |

extio dll is for hdsdr and not for sdrc v3 and yes with that extio (and the right sdr software used) you can select q branch for hf

quadrature mode in real uses the i branch '(for vhf uhf in tuner mode) on a lower if (the quadrature signals are produced in the sampling chip) and "hf mode" uses the q branch (connected to same sma connector over a 25mhz low pass filter in the rtl v3) so i hope that answers it extio for hdsdr (and select q branch) or use sdrc v3 and select q branch (hf mode) for hf dg9bfc sigi Am 20.11.2022 um 19:16 schrieb David Slipper:

David, in relation to your question, if serious about HF longer term it's worth grabbing a bargain. HF+ Discovery for $140 including delivery: https://itead.cc/product/airspy-hf-discovery/ Max |

Don't bother. It is not really an SDR front end. A built in test mode is misused to make it an SDR front end that is moderately capable. For HF it's all about signal leakage through the "stuff" inside. It won't be happy with small antennas. It will have some embarrassing holes in its coverage. And its performance is highly compromised. That said, look at the dongle's properties page. Also look at the
help files on SDR-Radio.com. {^_^} On 20221120 10:16:11, David Slipper
