Multiple RTL receivers on SDRConsole server ??
David Slipper
I have a server setup on an old Win7 32bit machine and with an RTL dongle and a FunCube dongle it works fine.
I have a second RTL dongle that I would like to add as an ADBS tuner but both RTL devices appear identical to USBTreeView (and windows device manager) They both appear as : Realtek RTL2838UHIDIR - Keyboard, 2× HID ... but on different USB ports. I can add a second definition but how can I tell which witch is which from the client ??? Many thanks, Dave |

Give the two of the same mfg/model different names in the server manager's "Radio's" Tab, if you are placing both of them for use on SDR Console Server.
I have numerous Airspy units on my servers, some are just numbered (Airspy #1, Airspy #2, etc) and others are named with the particular antenna they are connected too, such as Airspy on Force12C3 Beam pointing South or Airspy on 160M inverted Vee. In that way, users can choose the appropriate SDR/antenna combination vs connecting and only to find out it's on 20-10m beam when they want to RX 75M. I still have users that do that though, or try and use an SDR-iq on VHF or UHF when I state in the name of the SDR what it's frequency range is. Simon is working on that last I knew, such as a pop up screen that has to be acknowledged so users just might get the hint as to the capabilities are of the server. If that is what you are asking... 73 Kriss KA1GJU |

Look at the bare SDRSharp script for installing the rtlsdr.dll file. Manually run the the download and unzip it. Open a console window there. Dive into the folders to find either the 32 bit or 64 bit "rtl_eeprom.exe" file. CD to that folder. Then with only ONE dongle plugged in, for safety, run "rtl_test.exe" then ^C out of it. You should see only one device and it should transfer data. Ignore the one or two dropped packet messages from its startup. If it finds the dongle then run the command rtl_eeprom.exe -w "Dongle N.bin". to create a backup of the dongle's image data. That's your "I wish we were in Kansas, Toto" tool. Then run the command rtl_eeprom -s "some serial numberish text". Literally - up to about 40 maybe 80 anything bog standard ASCII letters, numbers, punctuation, etc will work. I tend to label by use. (I've abandoned that tool because Google made it a pain for me. They changed the way to access it. And the old link is posted many places. I tried to post corrections. That seems to be ignored. So I simply delete access requests.) It has a bug or two that can lead to "useless" dongles possibly related to a race within the dongles themselves. SDRConsole has a simplified capability for renaming the dongles, too. Be nice with whatever tool you use. You can change all three
product strings if you want to get fancy. Some programs may not
like this. "rtl_eeprom -?" and "rtl_test -?" are interesting and
lead to urges to get cute and experiment - at your own risk. Of course, once one is setup and checked with rtl_test do the second one. I use labels that reflect their use. {^_^} On 20230102 19:10:59, Kriss Kliegle

I think you can rename the USB RTLS once found. I'll check later today.

It's best to do one at a time. {o.o} On 20230102 22:34:49, Simon Brown

I wonder whether I can do this while searching?
Heads off into the computer/radio room to find a dongle...

if one rtl dongle need (as example) -63 ppm and other needs - 73ppm one could name them to remember the value easier serial number 0063 and serialnumber 0073?? or number 9063 and 9073 (nine says it is minus ... if dongles need PLUS 63 or 73 just name them 1063 and 1073) just an idea dg9bfc sigi

Thanks a lot for all the ideas, I'll start looking at it at the weekend. Dave

You can use "0" and "1" without all the leading zeros. Inside the dongle it is a UNICODE text string. But the rtlsdr.dll API transfers the text as one BYTE ASCII and recodes it to UNICODE in the driver. {^_-} On 20230103 00:27:05, Gisle Vanem

It is stored in the dongle as text. So just use a freaking minus sign if you do it that way. {o.o} On 20230103 10:33:59, Siegfried
