Error Using Two Identical RTLSDR Dongles
Blisstick
I've been trying to get two RTLSDR dongles to work in SDR Console v3 to no avail. My goal is to apply receivers to cover more bandwidth than one dongle will allow. It appears the proper way to do this is to start a second Instance of SCv3 as you can't start two radios at the same time in the program.
So, I created two different Identities - one with definition for the first RTLSDR and one with the definition for the second one. See SC3 Capture 1 and SC3 Capture 2 to observe the two definitions are for different ID's of similar devices. The error I'm getting is when I try to open both instances and start their respective (and different) definitions - it says "This radio is in use." See SC3 Capture 3 screenshot. The two dongles are connected to USB ports on the computer, not a hub. To further demonstrate that both dongles work, I've included screenshots SS Capture 1 and SS Capture 2 showing that both devices work in separate instances of SDR Sharp. SS Capture 3 shows both devices running concurrently in that application. Even on the "This radio is in use" error window, it shows the dongle name is different than the one already running in the other instance of SCv3. It makes no difference which instance I start running first, once one is running, the second instance won't start. Can anyone see what I'm doing wrong here, or is this maybe a bug in the software? |

Change the serial number of one RTL dongle and add it as a new definition?

Correct 😊

Changing the serial numbers fixed it! Thanks so much guys!
For anyone in the same situation, as of the current SDR Console v3.0.13 the instructions are a bit out of date. Here's what I had to do: 1. Select first dongle radio and Start it. 2. On Home ribbon, click Radio Configuration. 3. Click EEPROM tab. 4. Click Load - if values don't come up right away and you get "EEPROM not found" error, try it again a few times, or Stop/Start radio and try again. 5. Once values populate, edit Serial # and click Save. 6. Repeat steps for other dongles with the exact same serial numbers so they're different. 7. Open separate instances of SDR Console v3 (start menu > SDR-Radio.com v3 Tools > Select Identity. 8. Set up new radio definitions in each identity. You should now be able to run different multiple RTL-SDR USB dongles at the same time by opening separate instances/identities of SDR Console v3. |

what a nice step by step description simon nearly could copy and paste that on his hp in the howto "using multiple rtl sticks in console and change serial number" fine job ... explained well dg9bfc sigi Am 31.08.2019 um 13:25 schrieb

Or,
I’ll update the webpage with some screenshots which make life easier.

It sounds like both configurations are trying to open the same dongle. You might need to make the serial numbers of the dongles unique as a means of distinguishing one from the other.

That said, in the past I've noticed that two instances of SDRC seem to behave poorly in the past. It is probably time to try again. {O_O} On 20190831 01:07:56, Blisstick wrote:
