Audio problem with Console
Nico F4HTN
Hi everyone !
I would like to know if you can help me with SDR-Console and the audio output. I want to receive NOAA satellite with an RSP2 Pro and G5500 rotator + XQUAD antenna from Wimo, I receive them very strong on the RSP2 but SDR-Console break audio sometimes, the buffer fill up and overflow but I don't know why it overflow. I have tried to change the buffer latency settings for the VB-Cable, the problem was again here. I have tried also with an external Roland soundcard and it does the same. Can someone help me with that problem ? My computer is an i7-7700 @ 3.6GHz and 16Gb of RAM. I have also tried to receive with SDRUno and all is fine with this software, so the problem is on SDR Console, I've tried the V3.2 and V3.3 |
|
Have you tried operating the RSP2 Pro on a narrower bandwidth? If you are just working NOAA Sat's on VHF FM, you don't need 1 Mhz of bandwidth.
Also, are there other devices plugged into the same USB bus? 73 Kriss KA1GJU |

For what it's worth, I had a problem with poor FSK decoding when using SDR-Console with VB-Cable. It turned out that the INTERNAL sample rate for VB-Cable had somehow gotten set to 44.1 kHz. When I changed the internal sample rate to the same value as the input and output rates (i.e. all set to 48 kHz), the problem seemed to go away. The odd thing is that SDR# didn't seem as sensitive to this, but I didn't investigate any further.

SDR# may well use 44.1 kHz?

Also,
I use the WASAPI driver, SDR# probably uses a different driver.

Hi, thanks all for your response.
I have tried to put input and output to the same sample rate (I try 44.1KHz and 48KHz) but the problem keep going. For KA1GJU, I have already try with 500KHz bandwidth and the RSP2 is directly connected on the USB port and nothing other with USB on the machine. The CPU load with 500KHz is between 4 and 7%. 73 F4HTN |

Try a sample rate of 50kHz.

Hello,
I have tried multiple differents sample rate and also I've try today the Hi-Fi VB Cable to see if it change something but not, the buffer already always overflow and the CPU keep to be between 4 and 7%. 73 |

Did you every show screenshots? How about showing the VAC settings?

..I have found that closing Firefox solves a number of issues I have with SDR-Console. Sometimes if FF is running and I start SDR-C my downline VBCable clients (SpectraVue and SBSpectrum) mis-sample. I run them at 48kHz and clearly the audio is 44.1kHz go into those apps (e.g. smeared traces, stuttering). Check SDR-Console it tells me it is running at 48KHz (32 bits).
The clue in the mis-sampling is audio latency at the bottom od the screen goes above 300ms. And audio starts cracking and stuttering. I normally close FF and restart the radio based apps and it settles down.
So the suggestion is that you might be running another application at 44.1kHz So much simpler to use 48KHz

Hi all, thanks again for help.
I have set all input / output to 48KHz (and also 16 bits / 24 bits) but the result here is the same. For G4OGI, I have nothing running on the computer, only SDR-Console. i have also try to put ON ASIO but nothing changed.. I show you my setup: Audio Input / Output settings: The configuration of Hi-Fi Cable: The buffer goes always very high (minimum 220/250 to 320/350): And to finish the logfile: 73 all ! |

I had problems running VB-AUDIO (ASIO Bridge) and SDR-C and scrapped it. I use VB-CABLE from the same source https://vb-audio.com/Cable/index.htm
This works a treat even though the last release seems to have been in 2015

Turn off ALL other programs. If that does not solve it you have two clocks that are badly out of timing and nothing can help. {^_^} On 20230201 12:15:37, Nico F4HTN wrote:

Please post the FULL logfile, don't cut out the bits you think are important. There's a lot more information.
Sorry I 'haven't been paying a lot of attention to this thread, busy elsewhere.
ASIO will do nothing, SDR Console uses the Microsoft WASAPI audio drivers (low latency), your problem will be with your chosen VAC.

i am also using virtual cables here (over half a dozen) ... but i did NOT engage the 250ms buffer setting in console ... works fine maybe he could try that?!? a 100ms buffer filled to 80% is 80ms
... a 250ms buffer filled to 80% is 200ms ... smaller buffer
worked better here (just thinking) dg9bfc sigi Am 03.02.2023 um 09:24 schrieb Simon
