Popping in audio with Console 3
Paul Cianciolo
Hello,
I have a problem that has plagued me for quite some time now. When using Console 3 I get a popping sound in the audio. It is most noticeable when listening in AM mode. My computer runs Windows 10 64 bit I have 2 monitors with a Grforce 1080 video card. The popping happens with any of my SDR's RSP dou, RSP DX Airspy HF plus . When using any other SDR program, I do not have an issue, IE SDR#, SDR++, SDR UNO. SDR Console is 3.2 build 2731., but this has been happening for a couple of years not, not sure what build it started on. Here is the odd thing. If I open a browser and run a video intensive app. like say a YT video... The popping ceases and the audio is clean and consistent. With just the browser open the popping lessens, but with the YT video running the popping is totally gone. Also it is not signal dependent. I can disconnect the antenna and the popping still exists. I can send the log file if that would be helpful. Can anyone suggest what needs to be done to correct this? Thank you Paul C W1VLF |

have you checked the frequency and bit depth of the audio card? 73 Francesco Di Giovanni, IN3XZP |

Increasing the CPU load does indicate something in the audio card setup.

Francesco, I checked the bit rate and depth and changed it from 16 bit 44.1 KHz to 24 Bit 192 KHz
The problem gets worse the faster the bit rate and greater depth.
I am currently set to 16 Bit 44.1 KHz

How often does it pop? Once a minute, once a second, several times a second? Minute type levels are VERY difficult to avoid. The others may be things like USB port overloaded or the like. {^_^} On 20230208 11:13:55, Paul Cianciolo

I remember this bug from a LONG time ago. Updating the SDRC install may make a serious difference.
This may also be related to computer throttling when demand is low. Playing a video in the background would keep the CPU running at a higher clock rate.
