ICOM R8600
Curt Faulk
I am a patient man. When it comes, it comes; if it ever does.
We know that it is an oft-requested addition, and it would truly make SDR Console heads and shoulders above the rest, even more than it already is. Personally, I would fund a tidy further donation (and think many others would as well) to see it added. But we know you and George have other things to do. So this remains a polite ongoing request and in no way any sort of demand. We are all very appreciative of your efforts, Simon. SDR console is what I use far better than 99% of the time. Your summer there by the sea must be very nice indeed. |

A 'proper' scanner is a big project. And summer's coming...

It boasts an ultra-fast search speed of 3 GHz/s. Now if I can only bribe Simon into adding a scanning/searching module into SDR Console, I'll be set as soon as I get this thing. The native WiNRADiO software truly sucks. I WAY prefer SDR Console with my WiNRADiO G31 Excalibur receiver. -- - + - + -

You're killing me Curt. This is exactly the same reason why I haven't added the R8600 too.

I had divested myself of most physical radios about a year and a half ago but still have a DX 160 that was in the shop at the time. It rarely gets used nowadays. On 4/15/23 09:23, Curt Faulk wrote:
At these prices, Simon, for me, that'll be final. (Especially if my spouse finds out.) :-) |

WinRadio makes very nice SDRs. I'm only aware of a couple of people who use SDR Console with them, so assume most must use in-house software.

No such thing as 'final', just 'most recent'.

Did you ever get the WiNRADiOWR-G69DDC Excelsior Ultra? If so how do you like it?
I can't find much info on this receiver, not even a current price and I'm interested in it. I can only assume it's priced out of the hobbyist market except for a select few. I'm all ears for any info you have. |

Yes,
It's in the Search menu. All the WinRadio are great on HF - I think they use a super low noise preamp and a very linear ADC. There's something about them. Sadly they don't let me keep the radios but that's understandable.

These days, though, I've more got my eye on a WiNRADiOWR-G69DDC 'Excelsior Ultra'. I'm seriously considering this one, especially if I can convince Simon to accept drop-shipment of it first so that he can adapt it into SDR Console before I even get it. -- - + - + -

I've said it before and I'll say it again - the R8600 is a class act. Haven't used lab gear, just looked at the Band II signal - super clean, HF - clean and very sensitive.
