RSP1 not starting in SDR Console V3 #sdrplay #sdr-consolev3
Steven AA3AE
I recently updated SDRPlay APIs and EXTIOs along with their software update and updated SDR Console V3 as well. Now when Console opens, I can select the RSP1 to start in the dialogue box, but it really does not start, and clicking on start in Console does nothing. At the suggestion of SDRPlay, I installed a previous version of the API, but that had no effect. I know I have connectivity from Console as I get rig frequency correctly displayed and I can see the RSP1 in device manager. RSP1 does work with SDR UNO but not with Console or HDSDR now.
Any help or thoughts would be appreciated. Steve, AA3AE |

Did you delete the RSP1 definitions in SDRC after renewing drivers and make new definitions for the RSP1?

Would this happen to be Win 11?

I wonder if he updated extios with ones that recognize the new API properly or are they hack jobs? EXTIO seemed to be a good idea. But, with GitHub and FOSS in the picture it's kinda gone sideways with branches all over the place. {o.o} On 20221122 18:09:55, Mike Bott wrote:

Thanks for the replies thus far. I'm on Win 10 and downloaded only from SDRPlay and Simon's SDR website, no GitHub, etc.
Kriss, I'm totally unfamiliar with manual deletions of the definitions, where can I find info on that process? Thanks, Steve, AA3AE |

Unplug your USB connector and plug it back in.

Back in business! Lost my settings such as offset for IF panadapter, but I'll figure that out again. Was using the older versions since I was focusing on other things, but a new rig has reinvigorated my interest. I do notice a difference such as the number of RF gain settings, will have to relearn this program.
Thanks to all, much appreciated! Steve, AA3AE |

There is a long shot I'd try. Delete the RSP1 definition and rebuild it. {^_^} On 20221123 06:53:48, Steven AA3AE via

One of many reasons (numerous gain/attenuation settings) is why I have only one of those in my fleet of online SDRC Servers. With three variables that effect gain on the SDRPlay vs only one variable and one binary (on or off) variable for the Airspy HF Discovery.
The Airspy is just so much easier to operate roaming the bands as a stand alone SDR, not via an IF tap on an existing radio. The AGC and Attenuator on the Airspy I never need to touch, and the Preamp is only turned on on 20M and above, just like one would do with an 'analog' radio. So only the visual gain has to be adjusted, even then not so often. The SDRPlay has an RF Gain that's not linear. The IF Gain (actually an attenuator) has to be in manual so the AGC doesn't pump wildly during strong pulsing signals (CW) that are within the operating bandwidth. Then of course there's visual gain to adjust. You can get similar results (bandscope/waterfall) by high RF gain and high IF attenuation or low RF gain and less IF attenuation, and of course slight tweaking of the visual gain. See attachments for examples of the variables that effect what you see and hear for the Airspy units vs the SDRplay units. 73 Kriss KA1GJU |

If you dig through the specs for the SDRplay you'll see massive gain tables which the SDRplay team have hidden behind the options you see today.

That suggests the server could benefit significantly with some checkboxes that lock various settings such as gain/gain mode/sample rate/center frequency and such. Edit boxes could lock a frequency range into the front end that the owner sets up with knowledge of the antenna's properties. (That's more important at VHF and up than HF and down.) And that also suggests an addition for front end vendors. Add a
temperature sensor that can be easily polled. Then the SDR
software can be setup to shut down if temperatures get too high. {^_^} On 20221123 18:51:19, Kriss Kliegle
