SDR Hog?

Kriss Kliegle KA1GJU

If a user connects to a server and occupies two out of three SDR's at max bandwidth, on the same center frequency on both for hours on end every day...
Does that justify as "abuse"?

Asking for a friend.

Because Teamviewer thinks I'm a commercial user, I now have to drive up to the site and tweak the settings. Going to attempt to install Anydesk while there too.

I'd reduce the available bandwidth. Are you sure it's the same user?

Can't tell with the tools you provide. lol    i.e. the webpage http://onairv3.sdrspace.com/onair-v3.xml
Just says USA... but if you were to publish the physical IP and exact frequency in use, hint hint, wink wink, nod nod... on the above link,
it would make a visit to the site not necessary.

I assume it's a user not knowing one can open numerous RXR's. But for past several days, both on max bandwidth, both showing same or nearly same center frequency., and both starting within a minute of each other. I need to go up anyway and put shack back together after an ARES drill this weekend which I couldn't attend due to a four letter word, "WORK". Remove the PIA Teamviewer and install something else for remote access.

... You can write a note to teamviewer team and describe your use of the software... Then they will switch your teamviewer back on
I had that also (i use it to help others to setup sdr console)
I wrote to the teamviewer team... Wrote that i do not use it commercial but to setup a free software (sdrc v3) and help other ham ops and its hobby.. Private use...
They switched my account back on and all is good now..

Anydesk now installed at KA1GJU@PCARC and at my primary computer that happens to be Super Station #1. Works well, and will be installing at all other servers too.
As for the IP address, yes, same one, and it comes back to AT&T in the state of Washington as I recall.
I like having my servers with the option of users experimenting with two different SDR's at the same time, on the same antenna for valid A/B tests. There are times I do similar comparisons to test functionality of the SDR's, but usually only for few minutes.

I shouldn't be seeing that user again on that server, and if it happens on my local ones, #1 thru #4, one might expect I get an email from the user... maybe? lol

Quite the Lunar eclipse this AM too!

I would say yes

I've also been encountering that stupid teamviewer issue here. All of a sudden it decided I was a commercial user. Any recommendations for other options??

All:

I dropped TeamViewer years ago because of this issue. No, I don't want to coordinate with them to get it back.

I also switched from AnyDesk to Google Remote Desktop this spring. In my view, it is much easier to use and provides the closest kind of experience to actually sitting there.

I use it to remotely set things up for running my FlexRadio Systems remote shack, but it could be used just as effectively to administer an SDR server or farm of servers.

I also use Chrome Remote Desktop, have been for some time now, and I am happy with it.

Thanks everyone. It looks like remote desktop is the answer.

Well, this user is consistent!
At what point do you think the user will email me and ask why they are getting denied access?

Kriss KA1GJU

Kriss,
Yes!  I have banned some users from my remote for that type of abuse.

I use Anydesk because Teamviewer thought I was a commercial user.  I think Anydesk is better, but keep both installed on the remote, just in case!

Brett, just want to make sure you realize I am NOT using Remote Desktop (Microsoft) but Chrome Remote Desktop (Google) for remote access.

I will add that I did I was blacklisted from Teamviewer for the same reason.  I finally sent the folks at Teamviewer an email that include my and the  Teamviewer ID for the folks that I was working with and explained why I was working with them.   Mostly to enlightening and expand their knowledge of and participation in Ham Radio.   I assumed that Teamviewer folks check the traffic between me and the folks that I had been working with and found that it was NOT a commercial endeavor!!

Actually I was surprised that after several weeks that I got a reply from the Teamviewer folks indicated that my use had been reinstated.  So there is hope if you will just try to explain your legitimate use!!

Similar here.. and then a few weeks/months later they do it all over again.  No thanks - but actually thanks - that forced me to go to AnyDesk which works just perfect for my needs and NO hassles. For several years, doing exactly the same.

Simon,
When is the ability to have a pre-typed out text message from the SYSOP's (server computer) appear upon connection, or attempted connection coming?
It can't come soon enough!
This is user will sit on FT8 freqs for hours a day if I don't IP block them.

73 Kriss KA1GJU

Perhaps a connection time limit is called for, or better a time limit per IP address per day.

{^_^}
