You may have heard something and want to start recording it. With the cache you don't miss the beginning of the transmission, you also get the previous 10s / 20s / ... of data.

Is there something else that needs to be turned on? I'm not seeing any cached data in my recordings.

This is for data, not audio recordings. I'll check it's still working...

Hi Simon, Larry. I can confirm that when I attempt to set a recording cache when setting up a recording preset under the data recording options and tick the box for the "cache" drop down, whatever value I select, no data is cached. When I replay the IQ file, the start time remains the same as when I hit the preset record button and I've checked the audio on the recordings, and it has not pre-fetched audio from before I hit record (in case it had cached data but not updated the time readout to allow for any cached data). Hi.
Is this fix incorporated in the upcoming V3.2 release? 73 / Ingolf, SM6FHZ

Not the public beta but in the test team kit posted this morning.

QSL.
That was the intention of my question. I was was unclear asking :-) Now I know. I had seen that as well, but was just puzzled at that time. I will try it out again. A very handy feature. That is the time you need to get a IQ-recording started. 73 / Ingolf

Thanks Simon for fixing the cached data. Just installed Build 2645 of SDR Console v3.2 Public Beta (replacing 2643 which I only installed when I got home!). I can confirm the recording buffer now works. The time is shown correctly. I used a 10 second buffer for my test. You don't even have to wait 10 seconds after you want the recording to finish, it will catch everything till the moment you press the stop button. Ian Kelly Tilehurst, Reading

I'm not getting the result with the data cache that I expected... If I set the cache to 30s...and record for 30 seconds I should get a file with 60 seconds of data, correct? What I see is only 42 seconds. When I look at the logfile I see: Cached data...12 seconds. Should that not be 30 seconds? Could someone play with this and report back... Larry

Depends on the same rate / bandwidth. There may be a maximum cache size which I can increase.

Yes,
the maximum cache size is 480MB, I'll increase this to the greater of 480MB and 1/8 installed RAM, so if you have 8GB it'll be 1GB, if you have 16GB it'll be 2GB etc.

Will there be a option beyond 30 seconds of I/Q cache? Perhaps there is a way to fill the entire cache and then overate the old stuff.

Also would be great if there is a way to specify a custom size beyond 1/8th of your ram. Maybe do away with time limits and just have a configurable cache size? Thanks!

Eric,
I'll think about this - 30 seconds should be enough, more than 1/8th or certainly 1/4 of the RAM and the cache will have to be written to disk.

Hi Simon,

That is true. In most cases i figure 30 seconds should cover it. I see this being useful for say Meteor scatter on the FM broadcast band.
