I've been trying out Ham Radio Deluxe Logbook recently and noticed it can be quite sluggish. Traced the problem down to SDR Console itself. It seems like running SDR Console is enough significantly slow down HRD Logbook and also Log4OM as well.

I absolutely prefer SDR Console over SDRUno. My hardware is SDRPlay Duo. SDRUno does NOT degrade the logbook software performance, but it's NOT my preferred panadapter software. My rig is a Yaesu FTDX3000. My PC is a Dell OptiPlex with an i7 quad core and 16 GB RAM.

Are there settings on SDR Console I can tweak to reduce its CPU load?

oh yes ... thats why i took the z book 15g2 .. has intel graphics plus a (small but helpfull) nvidia card :-)

in its days (its a few years old) it was called "mobile workstation" (near desktop performance in a small housing)

Maybe open 'Task Manager' and find out what's running and hogging resources.
My main SDRC use machine is an ol' HP Laptop, 5th generation i5 with only 6GB ram.
My Dell Optiplex i7 works just fine too.
Both are on default settings 912kHz BW of an Airspy HF Discovery, 40 lines per second, default waterfall resolution,
buffer size X2 and Maximum fill. Mine are all accessed via the server method.

waterfall speed (default 40 lines/sec is way to high ... 5 to 10 max 20)

sampling rate of sdr (use only bw you really need)

waterfall resolution (set to default and not x4 or x8)

a "low power mode" (for slowish pc but i guess not needed on your i7 quad cause i also have in i7 with 32 gb and swows LOW cpu load)

taps in filters (more taps.. more cpu load)

buffer settings (bigger buffer ... more data to be buffered) ... more load at the end)

how many "extra gimmicks" are open (close all not needed extra displays)

....

all that may lower cpu from ... say 40 or 50 ... down to 5 or 10

and you have lots of cpu load as a rest for logbook, browser for qrz.com, email etc etc

...

increase sdrc to higher priority helps that there are no dropouts while doing things in background

and a few sidenotes

use a low sample rate (as example in pluto use 576 kc and not 2.688mhz)

and set waterfall speed down to 5 or 10 max 20 (from default 40) lines/sec

then restart

that will near half your cpu load (waterfall speed makes a lot of cpu power)

also geostationary beacon runs then slower

close all not needed specterum displays etc (all that eats cpu

that all lowers cpu ... from near unusable ... to running smooth without dropouts (if you have an underpowerd pc like my tablet with a small atom cpu or an old core 2 duo)

on a modern and fast pc you see from 1 to 5 % ... on an under powered pc from 20 to over 50 (or even more with hefty dropouts)

so ... depending what pc you have (nividia graphic to be used in cuda mode?? How much cores? What speed of pc? How much ram?? What settings in sdrc v3??)

you can have a super fast runnin setup to a near unusable setup ;-9

if all set well it runs on a core2 duo with no problems ... (THAT IS ABSOLUTE MINIMUM I WOULD SAY!!)

an atom tab with 4x1.8ghz and 4 gb ram on win10 ... yes ... easy with mid speed settings

a modern pc with lots of ram ... higher speed and maybe an nvidia card??? single digit cpu load with ease (i can get it down to 0.1 % load on a 6 year old laptop!!!)

3.1 is actually very light on CPU usage. Mine is often 2% maybe 4%.

3.1, March 18th, 2022, Build 2547 is the latest.
