Forwarded from the Airspy group, this new firmware works with SDR Console, no upgrade needed.

Subject: [Special] [airspy] New firmware update R3.0.7 for Airspy HF+ Dual Port and Discovery #airspyhfplus #firmware

Dear friends,

We are glad to announce a new firmware release for the Airspy HF+ series: 3.0.7
This release improves the streaming performance along with the addition of extra sample rates: 912 and 456 ksps. It can be applied to the HF+ Dual, HF+ Discovery BB and CD.
You can get the update package from the product page of your device under the section "Firmware Updates":

https://airspy.com/airspy-hf-plus
https://airspy.com/airspy-hf-discovery

The change log can be found, as usual at:

https://airspy.com/downloads/hfplus_changelog.txt

Enjoy!

FYI...
Their Groups io site has lit up with users problems updating the firmware today.
Be sure to load the PROPER FIRMWARE for the appropriate unit. If your SDR has fimware ending in BB then use the BB version. If you have firmware ending in CD, use the CD version. The difference is firmware is the slight change in the design of the microprocessor inside the SDR that occurred in production. Load SDR# to obtain the current firmware version, then download the proper version.
They also highly suggest doing the flashing directly via the USB port, not though a USB hub.

Simon, can you make SDRC show the firmware in a future update of SDRC, so we don't have to load SDR# just to see what firmware is installed?

This should not now be required.
Prog has updated the updater so it now checks the firmware version and automatically loads the correct one.

Hi,

It’s actually shown but in the logfile…

Thanks for the info Simon and Kriss.
Pardon my ignorance, but what good does this FW upgrade (R3.0.7) do?
Reading the Airspy change log ( https://airspy.com/downloads/hfplus_changelog.txt ) it looks like being a USB interface improvement. Is that correct?
What would that mean to me as a casual user?
Or, has the sampling band width increased? I do not think so.

Hi,

Really it depends on the firmware you were using before. I was on 3.0.0 so some good improvements, not the least being the extra bandwidth.

I have far too many SDRs, I use an Airspy Discovery on 2m to watch for Sporadic E and Tropo. There’s a local who a 104dB above the noise on the back of my beam, so the dynamic range here is essential at times.

I rarely use Airspy on HF because I use the ANAN 10e transceiver. I do have one or two HF+ on my server.

Thanks for the reply Simon.
I am on R3.0.6 now so it looks like a very minor change that I was not sure I could interpret what it actually meant.

R3.0.7 - 2020-06-04

Optimized the USB data streaming. Added 912ksps and 456ksps rates.

When upgrading firmware it is a good practice to use the vendor's recommended software, SDR# in this case, to verify operation and check versions before upgrading. If there is a problem this will eliminate one variable not under the vendor's control.
