SDR Console will not start

ad.barron@...

Hi, I just bought an SDRPlay RSP-2. SDRuno works fine as do all the other SDR programs I have (cuSDR, PowerSDR mRX, SDR#). But SDR Console will not run. I get a "The application was unable to start correctly (0xc000007b)" error. Which apparently can occur if an application tries to call a 32 bit .dll on a 64 bit machine. However it also seems to indicate dozens of other things as well.

I have tried installing SDR Console V2 and V3 on my C: drive and on my G: drive (preferred because C is a small SSD). I have reinstalled it at least 5 times. The installation ran smoothly although it always reloads the Windows redistributes even though they are already installed.

I get the same error when I run the program every time, even double clicking the application in Explorer. The SDR Console 'Reset Console' and 'Select Identity' utilities create the same error. I am pretty sure this is the only application that I have tried to install that has failed to run. In desperation I even downloaded the 32 bit version of SDR Console, but it failed to install because the system is 64 bit.

My machine is an i7 6700 PC with 16Gb RAM running 64 bit Windows 10. I tried running in administrator mode and in Win & and Win 8 emulation mode. I checked that the two Windows redistributes are installed correctly and they both report a successful install. I went on the SDR Console web page and checked the settings. I do not have any registry entry HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SDR-RADIO.com (V2)\SDRConsole and I do not have any user files directory in G:\Users\Andrew\AppData\Roaming\SDR-RADIO.com.

Any help much appreciated. I am not very happy with SDRuno so I want to try SDR Console V3. I would also like to try it with my ANAN radio.

Install as administrator if you didn't already

Thanks, unfortunately no change when installed as an admin. Exactly the same result. The install works fine, but the program wont start.

Hi Andrew, FWIW, did you download the install files from here?:

That is the latest "clean" SDR-Console preview.

Do I recall someone had an issue using a USB 3.0 port? I think they went to a USB 2.0 port and reloaded the driver and all was well. Just a guess.

I think this processor is a SkyLake type so it may be a graphics problem Cal?

I think USB3 problems started with later versions.

Andrew…. Try running dxdiag.exe which might show something?

Andrew,

Were it an incompatible DLL then I would expect a different error. It’s not .NET related – I don’t use .NET, also this isn’t a driver issue as we’re not using special drivers at this stage.

I wonder whether you have a bad download / disk errors?

  • Force a new download (make sure it’s not cached somewhere).
  • Run a disk check on your C: drive or install on another disk.
  • Anti-virus jumping in?
  • Trojan trying to hijack the program?
  • Depends is often interesting but this really just shows DLL dependencies.

Thanks I will try it. I used the download on the SDR Console website. I also tried the one on the SDR Play website and I have tried both SDR Console V2 and SDR Console V3. In all cases I uninstalled the software (using Windows Control Panel) before reinstalling.

thanks I tried it - no change same problem. Installs fine will not run. My PC must be allergic, I guess I will just stick to SDRuno and PowerSDR mRX. A pity I was keen to try it.

Andrew,

Did you follow my advice about a disk check? If you Google the error it does indicate a problem with your computer.

Thanks, I have reinstalled both versions to different drives and nothing works. The system is clean as far as I know.

OK,

My only suggestion left is a disk scan of C to check for disk errors. Either a wonky disk of a 64-bit DLL from one of the redistributables is not good. I am sure a reinstallation of W10 would fix the problem.

Sorry I can’t help further, SDRUno is a good program, I’m sure you will enjoy using it.

Yes I scanned both drives with CHKDSK - no problems found. Thanks for your assistance I know you have better things to do.

Andrew

There are lots of errors that can result in that message so you’ll need to find more about what’s happening.

Try disabling your anti-virus then try opening the console.

For example, my Windows 10 machine with Vipre sometimes messes up graphics.

If that doesn’t fix your problem you could look at the Windows logs and see what excuse is given under either System or Applications Logs. Look for any critical errors.. red blob with exclamation mark or a white cross.

To see these right click “my pc” or whatever name its given and select “Manage”, System Tools, Event Manager… any problems will show up as a red blob in one of the Windows Logs headings.

Ideally you shouldn’t see any red warnings but if you do see one something is amiss.
