Hi everybody

I have a  question regarding my RTL dongle.
I can see the  RTL SDR (USB) device in the search pull down menu but i when i select it, i have the following message  "nothing found, sorry".
I have put the three needed files in the SDR-RADIO-PRO.com directory  and instal the drivers with Zadic.
My dongle work very well with SDR# ?
There is something that i can do ?
Can you help me on that.

Thanks in advance.

Gillis:

Here's a step-by-step description that I've sent earlier to some other of my fellow radio club members . . . hope this helps:

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = =   begin included snippet   = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

1) go to Simon's V2 webpage & download & install the latest beta (he's constantly updating his software to add more capabilities, so you definitely want to get the latest version available) at the following URL & scroll down to the section titled "Beta kits" (NOTE: DO NOT click on ANY of the DOWNLOAD buttons, as these are unrelated ads put in out of Simon's control by the web hosting company that he uses & they will download some other app, NOT the software that you are looking for !!):

Then, to use the RTL TV Dongle with Simon Brown's SDR-radio V2 application, you'll need the following two additional components:

2) you need a useable USB driver (the one Windows installs automatically is worthless, as you've probably already experienced !!)

- the fastest way to get the required driver is to download the zadig.exe utility from the following URL (NOTE that there is a special version for WinXP, in case that applies in your case . . . make sure to download & run the correct one for your system) . . . you'll need 7zip to uncompress the driver archive:

- when you run zadig.exe (with your RTL DVB-T receiver plugged in), if your device does not automatically show up, you can go to the "options" pull-down & select "show all devices" . . . it will then show up . . . you want to choose either "Install driver" or "Replace driver" (both are correct) . . . note also that I experienced where my Norton 360 will flag zadig.exe as "suspicious" & it will keep zadig.exe from doing what it needs to . . . hope you don't have the same !!

3) you need a new DLL file to allow SDR-radio to access the RTL dongle directly via USB

- you can get the required DLL files by in the files section of this group at the following URL(pay particular attention that there are both 32-bit DLLs & 64-bit DLLs . . . choose appropriately for your particular version of Windows):

Once you install these two additional items, when you  click on "start a radio" (the little blue triangle at the very top of the SDR-radio window in the row of icons that starts with one that looks like a camera), then click the "Definitions" button in the "Select Radio" pop-up dialog, you will have a new choice titled "RTL SDR (USB)" available in the pull-down "Search" list to use . . . this will let you detect & add your newly installed RTL dongle.

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = =    end included snippet    = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Feel free to ask if you have any additional questions !!

Good luck & have fun !!

As an observer, Mark, an overall very good step-by-step from this viewing "angle". It gives SDR-Radio's dongle and chip-set users a great head-start.

I might suggest slight alteration to item #2 if only for better clarity ?

Original:

<<  2) you need a useable USB driver (the one Windows installs automatically is worthless, as you've probably already experienced !!) >>

Point #2 Original just gave the impression that "all" Windows USB drivers are worthless.

Suggested: Alteration:

<<  2) you need a usable USB driver for the RTL chipset (the one Windows installs for the RTL chipset automatically is essentially useless, as you've probably already experienced !!) >>

The RTL driver set Windows comes with is old, and was cast before the existence of the RTL situation for specific SDR use, hence it is quite useless to us now. The Windows-supplied RTL drivers relate more to the TV and IR (infared) capabilitries of the chip-sets it was originally written for.

The original point #2 just gives readers the impression that "all" Windows USB drivers are worthless.

Joe:

You're simply reading way too much into what was written & assigning meaning and/or intent where none was intended !!

The subject at hand is clearly the "RTL-SDR dongle".  My instruction set as written is 100% directed at getting this one specific device running for the OP.  By using the words "you need a useable USB driver (the one Windows installs automatically is worthless...)", there is absolutely no intent to imply that ALL Windows USB drivers are worthless (do you see those specific words ANYWHERE in what I wrote ??).  Similarly, using "worthless" here is intended to indicate that the installed driver does nothing to help us to use this specific device in the way that we desire.  Unlike the way you read it, this observation in no way takes anything away from any other Windows USB driver for any other device.

In general, I prefer to provide simple to understand step-by-step instructions, and for those that might wonder "exactly why did I just perform that step ??", I try to include any extra, amplifying information in parentheses.

Thanks for your comments !!

Wow, at this point, I'd only be guessing, so here are a few possible things to check:

1) did you install only the 32-bit files (DLLs) - OR - the 64-bit files (whichever is appropriate for your OS) ??

2) do you have the RTL-SDR plugged in when you reboot the computer (I would recommend not plugging it in until after the computer is booted & you've logged in) ??

3) if you look in Device Manager when the RTL-SDR is plugged in, do you see any yellow triangles on any device that might be related to the RTL-SDR ??

4) if you remove the three additional files installed for the RTL-SDR, does the RTL SDR (USB) choice disappear ??

5) and finally, here's another possibility reported earlier by Antonio EA7HJ (I've taken the liberty to include the corrected link as well):

Hi Mark

Hum. i have try all your suggestions including the new "Berry lib.dll".
but nothing works !

I have no choice to stay with SDR# that can see my dongle with no hitch.

My computer is new and my windows 7 64 installation is only 1 month old.

I can easily use SDR# and HDSDR on  a daily basis with my RTL dongle !

Thanks a lot for your help.

Hello,

I received an NooElec TV28T v2 USB DVB-T & RTL-SDR Receiver, RTL2832U & R820T Tuner, MCX Input for Christmas.

I have been hanging around here since August when I bought an SDR-IQ and paired it up with SDR-Radio version 1.5 (build 1425) which works very nicely as a bandscope/second receiver for my TS-590. Having been around that long I realize that the RTL-SDR is a challange to get working. I am using a Dell XPS laptop with 32bit Windows 7. Which so far I have not been able to dongle going on.

On that computer I am using the latest beta of version 2.0. I have downloaded Ziadag and RTLUSB files linked to below.

Do the RTLUSB files need to be placed in a specific location for this to work? I put the Ziadag executable in the same folder that the RTLUSB files were extracted to and ran it from there.

And/or do the RTLUSB files need to be placed in the SDR-RADIO-PRO.com folder the program creates when it installs?

Thanks for any advice you may give.

Don't get too discouraged . . . it can be challenging, but I'd bet that you'll get this to work !!

1) you can run the Zadig utility from anywhere (it installs the RTL-SDR drivers that Windows needs to talk to the RTL2832U data interface in the way that the sdr-radio utility uses).

2) you'll need to copy the three RTLUSB files into the SDR-RADIO-PRO.COM directory where the SDRConsole.exe file is installed.

Good luck & have fun !!  Let us know if you have any further questions.
