the console
Simon HB9DRV <simon@...>
Hi,
Have you tried the SAM and ECSS? The bandwidth on AM audio is now 6kHz, on RF 12kHz. If this is not enough please let me know.

Simon:
Your additions to the program are awesome. I look forward to you release. I know we've been around with this one before, but the one limiting thing that keeps me from using Radio Console is the limitations on bandwidth in AM mode. I hear what you're saying about audio vs.. RF bandwidth, but ALL the other offerings have much better fidelity for the armchair listener and SWLer.
Friendly Regards,
Mike

Simon, I am also experiencing what sounds like 'AC Hum' on the BC
carriers with the new beta version. Using DSB, LSB or USB will make the
signals audible but one can still here the 'jitter' present in the
carrier. ECSS and SAM settings seem to make little difference. I do not
know how demodulation is handled in the software but this condition was
not present in any of the other versions you have released. It does not
occur in PSDR when I do a comparison and altering the filters or band
width do not seem to effect it appreciably.

FYI, my system is using Win 7, Softrock RX Ensemble with an Edirol FA-66 external, USB sound interface. Bruce ------------------- On 7/26/2010 3:15 AM, Simon HB9DRV wrote:

I have attached an MP3 file of the sound. This is a strong, local AM
broadcast signal. It begins with setting in the DSB setting and then is
switched to the normal AM mode towards the end.

I get the hum on my sdr-iq when I use NR-2. I saw the post yesterday but the softrock appears to be a separate problem since turning if off makes to change. I do find that no matter what filter I use in the AM mode the audio is still muffled, making it hard when I do find a weak SW broadcast station to pull usable audio out of the noise. With my R-75

I could use DSP notch and PBT to pull it out without the bass sound. Maybe this can be changed in tools/filters but for SDR laymen like me The filter types and shapes are lost on me. I don't see the same problem with winrad or spectravue so something is different somewhere. Since I look at it from a SWL view,Ham Operators may view what the software should do or not. Just my 5 cents worth. Thanks Jim Miles --- In sdr-radio-com@..., Bruce Tanner <bet110@...> wrote:

Hi,
Thanks - I can't reproduce this with my SDR-IP and SDR-IQ so I'll try with a SoftRock v9.0.
Any chance of a screenshot while you're receiving - you can select Screen Capture from the Ribbon button (big round button in top left) ?

Hi,
I'm hb9drv on SKYPE if you want to talk, this would be most interesting.

I do have SKYPE and would love to hear the voice behind the
programming, Simon. Unfortunately, today is my XYL's birthday and I am
up to my proverbial 'neck' in alligators getting ready for the
celebration... (65 years! I don't know what this woman has done with my
young thing after 44 years of marriage but I wish she would bring her
back!)

Bottom line is that I can't do the SKYPE thing right now but would be happy to SKD it for tomorrow when my day is pretty open. I will make arrangements with you in the morning (your time) so we can maul this one over. Hope I can help. Bruce -------------- On 7/26/2010 10:03 AM, Simon HB9DRV wrote:

My recordings and screenshots, attached. Could not play Bet's file.
Another thing, continuous tuning of the Si570 with a fixed IF would be much better. It is difficult to tune stations at the end of a range, it often seems a gap is left between each jump. 73 Alan G4ZFQ |
