Variable Bandwidth

I would like to thank Simon for incorporating this feature into version 3.15 for AM and BFM and some other.  It is essential in many cases, especially on the broadcast band.

Of course, it is needed for other modes/frequency bands as well.

Just curious, Being able to adjust the left and right skirts for SSB would be nice as well.  Perhaps that will be in a future release.  I hope so.

So much to learn and re-learn with SDR Console.  Simon thank you so much for your efforts making this program available and always up to date.

we already have it

if you move the mouse arrow in the if specrtrum window ... over left or right edge of the ssbfilter ... you can either drag upper or lower edge of that filter ... restoring nominal bw of that selected filter if you just click on that filter again ... works superb

Hello Siegfried,

Spot on.  I must have had the feature turned off when I tried it.  I did notice CW doesn't have this implemented.  That won't bother me at all.

Have a great day!

George

I think the issue is, when on USB or LSB, the filter section fails to show the variable bandwidth button.  At least my screen does not show it.  set it in AM mode for example and go to SSB and it does work.

I suspect Simon just forgot to modify the filter screen to show the availability of this great feature.

George

Thank you for your work on this new feature, Simon.

It operates well, but it would be helpful for MW DXing if the passband could be "pulled" or dragged across the carrier frequency into the opposite sideband, rather than just stopping at the carrier (zero offset). It's possible to move the sideband edge across the carrier (into "negative" territory) with Studio 1, SDRuno, and (less intuitively) HDSDR; this is a feature that sets these programs apart for the medium wave DXer--it can help improve S/N and reshape audio response when the desired station has severe adjacent channel interference/splatter.

Guy,

For now I suggest you use Studio 1, SDRuno, HDSDR for AM/SAM reception. I am not planning any immediate changes.

Or use ECSS.

Thanks for keeping it on a future wish list for MW DXers. Those of us who chase trans-Pacific and Trans-Atlantic DX signals (often adjacent to 50 KW local/regional "flamethrowers") find this feature to be a game changer.

Of course, our tuning for these tough signals is already in ECSS. The AM mode is no help at all. However, being able to pull or drag the nearest passband edge across the carrier can really help intelligibility. The distance across the carrier is small, typically 50-150 Hz does the trick.

I would imagine that hams on a crowded band during a contest could find this technique / feature of use too.

Thanks again for the efforts you've put in on V3.
