Simon's World Map
Hi All,
This week I’ve been writing a small program to learn a few new areas of Direct2D programming, fulfil a need I have for a fancy World Clock and also take a break from the SDR coding. It doesn’t look like much of a program but I have learnt some important Direct2D programming features which is will be used in the future.
If you have a spare monitor / laptop then give it a go.

Thanks Simon. Looks nice on my Linx 10" Win10 64 bit tablet.

Like it very much! Already see it with satellites all over and doppler frequency display etc...Hint, Hint,Hint....:-) 73 Stefan, VE4NSA

That is cool! Runs very well, and it was easy to set up for my QTH. Now to come up with more work for you...

It really was a programming exercise - I had to learn a few new concepts and also wanted a clock like this as the commercial offerings are very expensive. A cheap PC + spare monitor and I have almost the same result. Obviously, I could add a satellite or two, also I want to add station tags, but the important thing for me is that I've worked out a few new tricks with DirectX / Direct2D programming. I too would like to see the map show moon coverage rather than sun coverage obviously for EME but then I am bias.
For me with the moon feature it would make a nice wall clock as, like most of us, I have lots of older computer and monitors laying around

Paul,
Plotting Moon instead of sun is easy – except sunrise / sunset.

Actually, I take that back. AOS / LOS for the Moon is trivial.
I use the sun for 80m DX-ing.

I would prefer the great circle map to be centralised when in full screen mode

I would like to have both clocks (local and UTC) on the world and great circle displays. Allan Zadiraka AB8OU 4110 State Rd Akron, OH 44319 Work: 234-738-4578 Cell: 330.760.4569 Home: 330.644.1839

Excellent idea! What a good reason to write an analogue clock 😊 .

Works great Simon,
look forward to additions, oh yes just discovered I can run CWSkimmer over IQ with my 8600 using your SDR Console. Cheers Cliff

Some ideas that come to mind.
1) Duplicate the Time Zone numbers along the bottom - helps with recognition... 2) Overlays for Maidenhead Grid surely, and DX Zones, et cetera? 3) Pop-ups that explain Where and What all those little "exception * here" boxes indicate. Only the Flying Spaghetti Monster knows them all, bless his Noodly appendages. That's all I've got for now. :) Brendan WA7HL
