Can your MP3 player actually play WMA? Windows plays the files…

Today it was the day of experiments with SCRconsole and other programs using the older RSP1a

Many recordings have been transferred to my mp3 player as test sounds
- the mp3 files were all well playable with slightly different quality , a bit less treble
- all wma were shown as unplayable file format

This is the info as shown in the media info:
Duration                    : 19 s 512 ms
Overall bit rate mode       : Constant
Overall bit rate            : 140 kb/s
Maximum Overall bit rate    : 129 kb/s
Album                       : SDR audio recording
Track name                  : 2021-05-09T153042Z, 96.8 MHz, BC-FM
Track name/Position         : 1

Any idea why this happens?

Re: 3D Demo

Zacharias Liangas

Linear classical waterfall is the most practical mode and anyone can get more results
This is also an option on Spectravue if someone does not know
I think that 3D mode is good for making good impression in presentations. More color grades adjusted by the user  can be also useful. as far as i can remember it was used also before 90s in very expensive reception gear
Because i many times use spectrans  waterfall and signal history as technical documentation to radio stations it can be a good idea if this 3D can be saved n a format that can be freely aligned and analyzed by the recipient

Re: sound output on sdrconsole

and on some systes if you use a different socket you have to restart console ... some "windoze" have a "socket contact" means depending wher you plug in a speaker (or headphone) it sends the audio to that socket ... but in that case console may not know

especially mic socket make problems ... but i guess in your setup it is also on speaker out

Where are your external speakers plugged in?
They do not have a separate sound device? if not then is there somewhere else to try? Like rear or front sockets?

plugged into the headphone jack at the rear. As I said, everything else ok. Odd.

This is Windows 10 #E$_)*)(ing you over. With SDRC running. Run settings. Select System. Select Sound. Go down the sound page to Advanced Sound Options. Go down to the SDRC "App". Tell it you blarthing well want it to go to the default output. Windows 10 seems to have this asinine notion it can read users minds. Fortunately it leaves you a way out.

no, says hi def audio but still coming out of pc.

looked at system, sounds, advanced and there's 2  showing, system, set to ex hi def speakers, and sdr console showing, it says default or hi def, select hi def and its still from pc.

very strange.

works ok on other pc's.

Was not going to worry about it as the wife does use the treadmill much.

But I think it will be a good project to try options on reducing or eliminating the QRM. Will let you know how it goes.

This has to be a soundcard setting.

Just put SDR Console on my new pc. Its playing sound through the pc internal speaker, not the external amplified ones, which work with every other program. Is there an option directing the sound on SDRC ?

Re: SDR Console vs. Elgato Stream Deck

Max

Simon, I do get that it's about the Elgato being "always live" but for most of us a lot of the functionality of this keyboard could already be implemented if you were able to map more customisable hotkey functions to the regular PC keyboard for use in SDRC.

As far as I know buttons like the mode selectors in the RX DSP panel are not yet available for hotkey. For example, I'd like to be able to configure the regular PC keyboard to press "L" for LSB, "U" for USB, "A" for AM etc. I think for most people this might be of more of a priority? Do you have any plans to do more work to map more on-screen functions to be available for customisable hotkeys, especially as the feature is already in SDRC, just that a lot of functions are not mappable yet?

Ah,

If it sends out keystrokes then yes, the app (SDR Console) must have focus. Maybe I can write code so that this is not needed, I would have to look at the SDK (API).

I'd like to add that the pluto does get DHCP, so its somewhat working, but I'm not able to connect with PuTTY.

Via USB it goes as it should without any issue and I can use the pluto as normal. When trying to connect via network I get this error:

The norwegian error message reads: "Wrong disk in the station. Insert (volume serial no. ) in the station".
Network card has a Realtek RTL8153 chip, and I have tried several without any change. The USB OTG cable has also been changed.

Does anyone have a suggestion on how to proceed?

Re: Dead Andrus

Hi Andrus

I was a bit concerned before I checked the radio on a second computer as this was the example with a blown-up network chip that I had to swap a couple of years ago. My first venture in changing a 32 pin QFN, Micrel MLF package.

How do I change the firmware? Treat me as a complete starter as my formal training in electronics was 1960-1965.

My university thesis was a speech scrambler using 12AT7 valves.

I’d hate to brick the thing!

I have noticed one or two minor network bugs. Any simple way of selecting Aerial B?

Only saw this today - Sorry guys I was not able to contribute to the solution!

Glad you got it working tho and thank you Simon for the help!

There is a new firmware that has the bugs in network handling fixed, already in github for few years ....

I havent been actively promoting it, but using it at my own radios and it is stable.

If anyone wants to tinker with his/her own build, do not use that one however, since there is also a not-yet-public v3 firmware that uses Atmel framework (ASF) and has therefore much lighter and simpler source tree.

Best Regards,

Andrus.

It was Vipre. I didn’t know it had turned on its firewall.

The clue was when I tried my Asus Mini PC on my 4K TV, adding Andrus caused Windows Defender to suggest allowing local network access before I could add the Andrus. Once I’d added a tick to allow access, the Andrus was added and worked OK.

Went back to my main PC, switched off Vipre Firewall and everything’s working again.

Cheers

Any plans on rectifying the QRM?

A quality AC line filter perhaps?

An FT240-31 with numerous wraps of the power cord through it?
