Subject: [SDR-Radio] AGC Questions #sdrconsole

Hello,

Would like to understand more re the AGC function in Console.

All sorts of combinations I could relate, but the following pretty much summarizes what is confusing  (to me at least).  It seems for me the results of changing the

RF Gain, the IF Gain, and AGC On/Off are not consistent, or repeatable.

Using a RSPdx, and a simple horiz 70 foot long wire ant.

Last night was listening to WWV on 15 MHz.  Came in quite clear.

(a)         Baseline on Spectrum is -110 dbm  (good, right ?)

              AGC is Off.

              RF Gain at 0 (min)

(b)           I now turn the AGC On

                IF Gain is -55 dB

Baseline jumps to -85 dbm  !

If I change the IF Gain to -35 dB, or -20 dB, no change

in Baseline or signal.

*So, why please does turning the AGC to ON apparently

  increase the noise floor ?

*And, If I change the AGC now to OFF, nothing happens.

Why ?  Shouldn’t it revert back to (a) again ?

BTW: would anyone, besides me, like to see Sliders,

rather than discretes, for the RF and IF

          Gain settings ?

Best regards,

Bob

Well,

I know it can be done, it's some sort of a gradient brush, it's probably silly easy when I work it out but so far I'm stumped. Having said that...

Hi,

I would need a database of the zones with the info for drawing this, could be shapefile format as used by timezones, could be the same format used for country boundaries. It just has to be a database / flat file.

Simon,

The next time you decide to update your World Map app, can you set up a way to shift the Title Tags to either the right as they are now, or to the left? This will allow the tags to placed a bit more out of the way of locations one would want to see.

Thanks!

Re: Which SDR for pan adaptor on a 9MHz IF output?

Chris Wilson

Hello EB4APL,

Saturday, May 23, 2020

As far as I can see there are only bandpass filters in front of the
IF tap, most users of FTdx-5000 sets seem to use it for their
external panadaptor, but thanks for the heads up. I have decided to
keep it cheap and simple and use a (admittedly USB...) Softrock Lite
II on 9MHz for now to see how I get on with this thing. Thank you to
all who have replied, appreciated.

Best regards,

Looking for a new SDR that will interface to the 9MHz IF out on an
FTdx-5000, as a bandscope, and also as a general purpose SDR.

Which should I be looking at please, for HF? It must use ethernet, I
cannot abide USB ;) Thanks.
