Re: V3.2 Beta - SDRplay

N2MS

I downloaded the 3.0.10 API. There is a note with it stating:

*WARNING on Windows10/11 breaks API 2 functionality*

Does anyone know what this means? I'd like to find out before upgrading to this API version.

Thanks,

Mike N2MS

This will be a public beta later today

With the introduction of the 3.0.10 API some users of the RSP1 and possibly other SDRplay radios are having problems with SDR Console. The logic used in SDR Console is to open a device by matching the saved serial number against the serial number of the available SDRplay devices. For an unknown reason the serial number for the RSP1 may change over time, I have logfiles from a user showing this.

Something else I've noticed is that the RSP1 now has a unique SN, prior to 3.0.10 it was always 1.

To overcome this problem the serial number is now only used if there are more than one SDRplay devices of the same hardware type. So, if you only have one RSP1 / RSP2 / RSPdx etc. then it will be opened irrespective of serial number.

I've added extensive diagnostics in the logfile to help with any future workarounds.

I have a couple dongles from nooelec, one from long ago and one the new txco design. They are both working, partly because I kept them cooler than the others. It's still worth sticking a small heat sink on the packages.

Re: No RSP useable in SDR Console #sdrplay

Simon,

With my Win8.1 set-up, I had to use the 3.09API with both SDRuno and SDR Console to get either to work. With the release and installation of of SDRuno 1.42.0728, the 3.10API (non-beta) worked with both SDRuno and SDR Console.  Since I basically replaced my SDRplay RSP2 with the RSPdx at the same time, I also removed V2 from the system..

You do not need to uninstall the old driver. All you need to do is mark the dongle as a WinUSB device that uses libusb.

Your problem makes me think of one thing immediately. You exported SDRC settings from one machine, imported them from the other, and used whatever goofy instructions you found for running Zadig. Yes, Windows can install DAB stuff on the dongle. Do not interrupt it. Let it finish. THEN run Zadig, find the device by VID and PID. These may be different for older E400 dongles than for more modern R830T dongles. So you may have to run it twice for each dongle. I'm annoyed so you get to figure out the appropriate vid/pid pairs. Be careful. The 0bda vendor makes other stuff likely in your computer. Find a candidate and google the numbers. When you have a device candidate tell Zadig to "Install WCID Driver". Leave WinUSB selected. When running Zadig you do not have to log in as Adininistrator. You do have to use an account marked as one of the administrators and use the "Run as administrator" right click option.

If Zadig has not been run properly and you did the export then import with SDRC it may be able to see a device but not use it.

The only other thing I can think of is the possibility that Windows security features may mean you have to go into settings and allow SDRC to run the dongles. That may require a big long slog through settings. I'd start with devices or security. 11 has settings to make access to sound and video devices at a very granular level. This may exist for a "DAB" dongle even if it is now marked as a device using WinUSB.sys.

I've not been following this discussion because - well - rtlsdr. I am developing an allergy to the god damn things helped along by Google screwing up the external access to my Google Drive folder containing some rtlsdr aids - and users not being able to read past where they found the link on rtlsdr.whatever. I posted the correction. But the people cannot edit the original post to put in the correct address.

Re: Contour Multimedia Controller Express & SDRC

I use the Contour Shuttle with Win4Yaesu and Tom has built in some very simple functionality which makes it work very well - perhaps something similar could be built into SDRC?

Tom catches four different key strokes at the application frame level : F9 and F10 which are interpreted as "tune down one frequency step" and "tune up one frequency step" and the plus and minus keys that are interpreted as increase and reduce the frequency step size. We program the wheel to send a stream of F9s and F10s depending on the direction it is turned and program the two large buttons on either side of the shuttle to send plus and minus keystrokes. The up and down arrow keys retain their current meanings, tied to whichever pane has focus...

Re: usb relay, which one to order?

As far as i know usb relays only be used to switch ptt but not between antennas..
A band data out via usb could solve that.. Say you want to switch to the beam on 10 to 20m and to the dipole on 40 and 80m..
If your two antennas are one for transmit and (maybe a beverage) one for receive.. Ok then you could use a usb relay.

I also noticed this, but dismissed it as the potential cause, because when starting SDR-C and clicking the <Definitions> followed by <search>, the program has no trouble finding and identifying the dongle. To demonstrate this I have added some more definitions to the Radio Selection list. You will note there is even an original device using the Elonics E4000 front end, which again works fine on the W10 Laptop: Select Radio

I have several dongles. Some of them are the ancient original ones and some of them are the "Second Generation" versions which have the TCXO, built-in bias tee and the facility to use them for HF. These latter ones are both genuine Airspy and some are Chinese copies.  All of them work fine on the Laptop.

Photo representative of the dongles is attached:RTL_Dongle
