Hello David, how about using a midi controller? https://www.sdr-radio.com/midi-controllers I am a blind person and as the current version of Simons excellent software does not support many keyboard commands I am currently researching this option. Cheers IC

Bandwidth / Span Question
rmrrgs <rgsrose@...>
Hello,
Bandwidth is always a bit confusing to me. Might someone please explain for me the difference between "Bandwidth" in the /Home menu, and the "Bandwidth" option that comes up by clicking on the small keyboard iconn at the bottom-right of the screen ? (the Radio Frequency screen that appears) If I jus want to change the Spectrum SCAN that is showing, without changing anything else, which, or what, do I do ? [without using the Zoom vertical slider] Thanks, R. |

I would like to put forward the idea of adding a separate satellite tracker that would not require SDR Console to be open (like Simon's World Map but with satellite tracking). It could still be able to control direct tuning of RX or TX freq's in SDR Console or could also be used in tandem with other SDR programs. In my honest opinion your satellite tracker is the cleanest of all that I have come across. -- - + - + -

How does one scan the frequencies I have entered into, say, bank 1?Hi Gedas There is no scanner on SDRC yet. It is on Simon's "to-do" list. Think he said may possibly be added later this year. As a sort of temporary alternative, you can set up multiple receivers and even view them all simultaneously in the Receiver Matrix, then use squelch to silence inactive channels. You can have up to 24 receivers running simultaneously, and groups of 24 can each be stored as a "Favourite". To store batches of frequencies Favourites is a lot more powerful than Memories in the parameters they store: https://www.sdr-radio.com/Favourites Sorry, I know it's not the answer you wanted, but Simon is just one person and SDRC is a truly brilliant program for SDRs. The truth is that possibly the majority of users of SDRC (I'm going by the average type of question asked in the Forums) are radio amateurs using it for transceive operations, so scanner possibly not highest on list of the average user's priorities, but it's worth hanging around as new features are added all the time. #feature ICAO SELCAL Tone Display
#feature
If possible I'd like to see an optional (for those who don't) graticule display on the AF window with a scale for ICAO SELCAL tones to aid identification of the codes being called. Taking that a step further a seperate AF window with a slow waterfall display would be better in order to see those tones after they have been sent.
The tones spacings are: A 312.6 Hz
B 346.7 Hz
C 384.6 Hz
D 426.6 Hz
E 473.2 Hz
F 524.8 Hz
G 582.1 Hz
H 645.7 Hz
J 716.1 Hz
K 794.3 Hz
L 881.0 Hz
M 977.2 Hz
P 1083.9 Hz
Q 1202.3 Hz
R 1333.5 Hz
S 1479.1 Hz
I think this is an easy option versus developing a decoder as such. I have been after something like this for years but have had to make do with full blown and costly decoder software so a simple display might be a bonus addition to the Console for many HF aero followers. Attached is a rudementary and not to scale idea of the AF spectrum window display. |

Problem: Automatic span value based on SDR bandwidth
#bug
#sdrserver
#possibly
Finndx
The second issue is regarding remote servers and span value as well. The problem is that I need to set that span value almost every time immediately after connecting to a server because SDRC doesn't keep this setting.
I would like it to keep it all the time as 100 kHz for remote servers (also for European servers if it would work with that value - but currently I need to set that span value as 50 kHz for European servers as explained in my another message). Why the hassle of setting up the correct span value every time after remote connection? Or is there a way to keep it unchanged after every connection to remote servers? I haven't found such a way. It seems that this suggested span value depends on the BW value the remote SDR was started with: SDRPlay BW 150 kHz -> Span ±67.500 kHz BW 200 kHz -> Span ±100 kHz Airspy BW 192 kHz -> Span ±86.400 kHz BW 125 khz -> Span ±56.250 khz etc. If I was using just SDRplays with 200 kHz bandwidth there would be no need for immediately setting up a span value after every remote connection. But every time Airspy is used or I've used SDRplay with lower BW I need to take care of the span value. (Some people are recommending favourites but favourites doesn't help here. If I save favourites with "200 kHz view" (i.e. 100 kHz span value), I still get "maximized" spectrum view when recalling them ie. it changes span value in accordance with SDR BW). Simon, could you make SDRC to remember the previous used span value and not to use an autovalue based on the SDR BW? Or even add a separate setting for predifined preferred span value? Anyway, thanks for the good work with SDR Console! |

Problem: Auto Center not working when tuning outside the visible range

Simon, can I have your attention?
I have two issues with SDR Console that have existed since "the day one". I am using a lot of remote servers with SDR Console software and this includes both SDR Console V3 servers and Spyservers. My main focus is on FM stations and since our download speed at home is only 10 Mbps, I am used to listen to only one FM station at a time when using these remote servers. So I see only one FM station within 200 kHz bandwidth spectrum. Well, this is true for North American servers but with European servers I see even less of spectrum. This is because I want to use mouse wheel for scrolling frequencies (as a logical replacement for good-old tuning knob). To make this happen, I've had to make a special setting for "Span" value. For North American servers, I use the span value of 100 kHz (that's the half of tuning steps of 200 kHz on the North American FM band). For European servers, I use the span value of 50 kHz instead (as tuning steps are 100 kHz in the European FM broadcast band and 50 kHz is half of that). I have found this arrangement as the only solution for getting mouse wheel working properly. The downside of this setting is the aforementioned limited view for spectrum when listening to FM stations with European servers. If I use any other span values, the tuning with mouse wheel isn't working in an expected manner. Let me share some screen captures about this issue. The settings for these pictures are: 200 kHz BW, Span ±100kHz and trying to tune in 100 kHz steps. The first screen capture is for 92.1 MHz, the second one for 92.2 MHz and the third one for 92.3 MHz, tuned one after another. What actually happens is this: 92.1 MHz: image shows "full" spectrum of the 92.1 station and audio is normal 92.2 MHz: image shows the same spectrum as before - so this means half of the spectrum of the tuned frequency is now completely missing and audio is MUTED 92.3 MHz: image shows spectrum correctly for this frequency and audio is normal again And of course, there is the same effect for the next frequency 92.4 as what happens with 92.2 ... etc As I told, my workaround for preventing this to happen, is to set the span value for 50 kHz when listening to European servers but then again I'm missing some of the spectrum. For myself, it's more important the tuning with mouse wheel is working properly. It seems to me that SDR Console cannot handle properly the situation when actual channel width is close to or equal to SDR BW. I feel that if full channel width doesn't fit in the shown spectrum, autocenter should make it to fit. (I have ticked both the "Auto center" setting on the "View" panel and "Adjust the display frequency to make visible" on Tuning settings - none of these help for the issue). |
