Re: Recording & notch - manual interface

Leif Asbrink

Hello Phil,

Maybe you could make a wideband recording available.
Some situation where you think notch filters would be
beneficial. I would be happy to place that recording
in the "SDR data file library"
http://www.sm5bsz.com/rf_library.htm
together with the loudspaker output of Linrad.
(Please supply information about the station of interest
and a file with the loudspeaker output you can get with
the optimum settings of your current software.)

Linrad-03.14 comes with a Windows installer:
http://www.sm5bsz.com/linuxdsp/linrad.htm
It can apply up to 9 notch filters to the baseband.

GA Simon as I have already asked a lot ;-)))
I had only to wait till someone had ask for a manual notch and its interface.
Here it is on the CiaoRadio SDR, look at the pics I uploaded

The manual notch in the CiaoRadio SDR works so: in the filter window just click with the rigth mouse key over the interfering signal (here 3 times) and I have perfect notches.
More if I drag right mouse over one or more of the already notches on the bottom part the notch becomes wider, so wide that all the filter is notched!
To remove the nochtes simply put the mouse on the upper part of the filter window and drag left to righ or viceversa and the filter window is again clean on notches.
Hope The explanation will suffice eh hehehe.

The other two pics show how is possible to get just the spectrum uppper part viewable simply by dragging the mouse from one of the below corners toward upper ones.
This way I\We will have much more free space on out LITTLE_Monitors.

I was just waiting the good occasion to let you know that.
Eh hehehe,.

I'll add auto-notches initially then add manual notches as well. I haven't
yet decided on the right filtering to use for a notch - FIR or FFT, I'll
have to look at this. Using FIR will introduce extra latency which will
become an issue with TX support, so maybe FFT filtering.

Gm Simon, I am not like some HAMs that when call CQ they say : "cq cq here is xyz on 14.125,123 if you are not on my freq. I will not respond" !
eh hehehe .It is just for tha sake of matter.
Of course when the radio integration will be ready it should be easier.
The Yaesu radios show the carrier freq. as all the beacons and time\freq transmitters are all on the exact freq.
the BFO offset either SSB or CW is injected after the mixing stages.
That is the offset I see between SDR_IQ and my rig.
The need would be for an option to let the SDR freq in sync with the radio.
For that reason it would be usefull&easier a sort of programmable shift in the SDR's software to let the two scales be on the same freq.

Having used the SDR_IQ beside my SUPER FIELD for a while I have noted that
changing the bands from one
to another the SDR_IQ is always OFF_tune even 1000Hz apart the FIELD's
tuning scale.
So it is a must to recalibrate to keep the 2 units iso-freq.

Two options are still necessary to the above function:

1) 500Hz move + and - ,
2) some sort of memory, one per band, so that when I\We go back from one
band to another the calibration follows the band tuned.

Even because when Simon will add the RIG support to the Console the tuning
scales would need anyway to be resynchronized .
