Re: Almost One Year

That doesn't sound like 'vacation'... however, my young son of 8 years used to take his Math text books on vacation for 'fun' reading... so I do know such things can be rewarding and relaxing for some!  Looking forward to the new issue and want to thank you for what seems like tireless activity on your part for many of us.

Well done Simon, great work has been done in the last year, and indeed in the last number of years by you on HRD & SDR.  Being one of the very fortunate people to have met you in person, your enthusiasm for what you do is infectious.

Happens with my FA-66 USB interface as well. I had thought it was just me... but you describe what I go through each time I load the SDR Radio, anew.

I experience the same, and a bit more.
I find problems with soundcard selection, win XP.
I open the console, my Delta 44 is shown selected. Start it - nothing, no
audio. I have to
Stop - select on-board sound - start - OK, sound taken from there.
Stop - select D44 - start - OK now audio from D44.
BUT the sample rate can be either 48 or 96KHz regardless of what is
selected. The only way to be sure is to lock the D44 sample rate before
starting.

I think that the bug isn't actually soundcard related, rather elsewhere as I have a similar timing issue with my SDR-IP on one of my test systems. I sometimes have to start / stop a couple of times before the data comes over.

With XP it's simply showing up the bug a bit more. I'll find it, sometime I'll find it when my brain is fresh.

Number of updates / second in the Waterfall. Each update uses more CPU, so for very slow CPUs / weak graphics cards you drop it down.

Simon,
Just a few comments about this (beta) version and a fix frequency SR-40.

- The program doesn't save the Image Rejection settings. I think that probably it is not implemented yet.

- I use a Delta-44. I have to select other audio card (i.e. the integrated audio and start the radio, then stop, select the Delta 44 and start. If the Delta is selected at first the radio starts but no audio and no spectra.

Re: Recording & notch - manual interface

Simon HB9DRV <simon@...>

Hi,

Let's see - I'm a bit sceptical because the FIR filtering I use is very sharp with low, low skirts.

I'm thinking about an extra-special DXers window which is similar to the current AF Spectrum window but much more advanced - any number of notches, filtering options etc. - essentially the ultimate window for processing the signal.

Very sharp filter is in use, but strong carriers/stations close-in
either side can cause desensing on wanted signal/channel. Judicious
use of notch(es) can make the difference.

Hi,

Why not use a very sharp CW filter instead?

I'll be adding the notches today anyway...

NDB CW Dxers would be very happy with two very narrow(5-30hz approx)
notches above and below the very narrow target frequency(as few hz as
possible!) They really need to be manually adjustable, freq and width.
I use an 8hz audio filter at 300hz CW pitch.

What I will add when I get the time is a nice window similar to the
idea Leif @ Linrad has discussed where you can apply any number of
notch filters to a window similar to my Zoom window, this type of
display would be of interest to MW DXers amongst others.

Hi Simon,
is another column possible in mouse right-click? Or somewhere else
easily accessible, like next to mode selection? Yes, rounding to
nearest
full kHz would be very good.

Thanks,

Mauno

Hi,

Where would you like to select this step size? I have a few ideas but
would like your input. Also I think that I must give the option of
always rounding the frequency to the step size, for example if in
9kHz
step size then the frequency is always a multiple of 9kHz? I would
make the steps sizes fully customisable.

Is there a way to adjust the tuning pace by mouse scrolling on the
waterfall. To choose 1,5,9,10 kHz would be excellent for MW!
I tried to find it.

Thanks,
