Re: the console

Hi,
Thanks - I can't reproduce this with my SDR-IP and SDR-IQ so I'll try with a SoftRock v9.0.
Any chance of a screenshot while you're receiving - you can select Screen Capture from the Ribbon button (big round button in top left) ?

Re: the console

I get the hum on my sdr-iq when I use NR-2. I saw the post yesterday but the softrock appears to be a separate problem since turning if off makes to change. I do find that no matter what filter I use in the AM mode the audio is still muffled, making it hard when I do find a weak SW broadcast station to pull usable audio out of the noise. With my R-75
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
I could use DSP notch and PBT to pull it out without the bass sound. Maybe this can be changed in tools/filters but for SDR laymen like me The filter types and shapes are lost on me. I don't see the same problem with winrad or spectravue so something is different somewhere. Since I look at it from a SWL view,Ham Operators may view what the software should do or not. Just my 5 cents worth. Thanks Jim Miles

I have attached an MP3 file of the sound. This is a strong, local AM
broadcast signal. It begins with setting in the DSB setting and then is
switched to the normal AM mode towards the end.

Nice interface; Results are with KTH-SDR receiver (softrock alike) On version 1.0 SSB, FM, AM, and SAM was working OK on XP 2.2 GHz desktop. On AM some 50 Hz noise and rumble sound below 300Hz witch could be cut off with the left filter slider so no problem. On Version 1.1 AM and SAM and FM are not working...... 73 Joris PE1KTH

GM, no problem on moving the MP3 window around.

The matter is that when AF_Spectrum is ON and I activate MP3, MP3 open on place of AFSpectrum and to see again AFS I have to go up in the bar and click on the AFS button to see it again. It would be easier to have such botton directly in the AFS\MP3 window to switch from AFS to MP£ and viceversa. 73 Phil

Alan,
I'll test this on my XP system to see if I can get a crash. Have you tried SAM / ECSS? A screenshot would help me understand how to reproduce this problem.
To remove low hum adjust the filter - I can add a default high-pass if needed.

console's b360.2 , 15-10 meters band blocked
ic8pof
GM Simon, something strange happened yesterady sunday on 15 and 10 meters with my SDR_IQ and console b360#2.
I have SWL_ed in the IOTA contest for a while and all has flown OK on 40 and 20 meters. Lot of stations and many have been one above the other ;---). Almost all have been copied , but the "STRANGE_THING" happened on 15 and 10 meters. See the pic : http://groups.yahoo.com/group/sdr-radio-com/photos/album/1050649225/pic/427902982/view?picmode=&mode=tn&order=ordinal&start=1&count=20&dir=asc Here is to be seen a local friend's signal at S 9+20/30 level, about 1km away with 100w and a yagi. During the transmission the whole SDR RX window disappears .....uhmmmmm . When he ends the transmission there is a BLACK_HOLE of about 1/4 second then the band is again visible. And so on at every TX RX passage. I have tried also to move away the RX window about 100khz below and the same happened. A short test on 10 meterrs also made the same THING. I have tried in the afternoon to feed an 15mt signal with my RF_Gen at about S 8 - 9 and have noted that the RX window also disappears. Lesser but disappears. As I am not a programmer but only a key-depresser I cannot say what happens on 15 and 10 meters. In a REAL RX such occurrence would show to a poor hardware design, but in a software radio where is the problem ? 73 Phil

Hi,
I haven't forgotten the AGC design, it's very good, just haven't had time yet. Over the weekend I started the TX support as 'someone' may have a new SDR transmitter and needs TX support in the console for testing.

Hi,
Have you tried the SAM and ECSS? The bandwidth on AM audio is now 6kHz, on RF 12kHz. If this is not enough please let me know.

Simon:
Your additions to the program are awesome. I look forward to you release. I know we've been around with this one before, but the one limiting thing that keeps me from using Radio Console is the limitations on bandwidth in AM mode. I hear what you're saying about audio vs.. RF bandwidth, but ALL the other offerings have much better fidelity for the armchair listener and SWLer.
Friendly Regards,
Mike

Feature request

Hi Simon,
Thanks for your great work! I especially appreciate the integration with the broadcast station database. One feature that would make identifying stations much easier is filtering by "on air now", i.e. showing only stations that are broadcasting at this moment. I hope you remember about my other request, about the AGC algorithm. 73, Mike VE3YXA

console's b360#2 15meters band blocked
ic8pof
HI , this morning I have played SWL_ing in the IOTA contest and when I have switched on 15meters the thing you see in the pic below happened :
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/sdr-radio-com/photos/album/1050649225/pic/427902982/view?picmode=&mode=tn&order=ordinal&start=1&count=20&dir=asc The strong signal is a friend's ssb playing in the IOTA-ssb away from me about 1Km. The strenght was about S9+20. When He was transmitting the whole RX window and hence the weak signals around him disappeared. At the end of the transmission there is a Black_Hole GAP before the signals around come again visible. Could not test on 10 meters, but on 20 and 40 meters it did not happen. I Have tried in the afternoon to feed a strong carrier about S8-9 from my RF_Gen in the SDR_IQ and "seems" also happening the same thing. Such bad blocking occours only in very cheap\poor hardware radios, here is all software. What do you think Simon ? 73 Phil
