Re: Allopurinol
Well,
Meat’s not good – I eat 99% vegan which does help, my diet is good. My issue is simply down to insufficient fluid intake and warm weather – I’ve now had three pills, drunk a lot more than normal and there’s already a marked improvement.
Woot! On with the coding…

Re: Elad S3 recording bug

I've uploaded a 20 second recording showing the problem. Same conditions as before in as much as listening live the signal on 106.6 is not fully quieting but perfectly audible ( a Whitesnake track IIRC). The first 10 seconds were recorded with no software preamp, from 10 to 20 seconds the software preamp was enabled. In playback no amount of gain reduction in the data playback options stops the overload and resolves the signal.
Hopefully I've done this right, click on the 3 dots on the right hand side and download? https://www.dropbox.com/s/va6iioi4ogr6blr/15-Jun-2021%20162627.634%2097.750MHz%20000.wav?dl=0 Paul

Re: Elad S3 recording bug

Thanks Jim, I'll go record something and upload it when I'm home.
Simon may have narrowed down the issue and I'm partly to blame for not noticing that data playback gain is adjustable and that it affects the IQ file, I didn't even think to try adjusting it as I assumed it was display gain. As it's set at 0dB I would expect the same result on playback as was recorded but maybe not. Once I've recorded a new file I'll try reducing the gain to see if that cures the problem and if it does how much is required for playback to match the original 'live' performance. Paul

Thanks again for all your wisdom.Allen, I was hoping to be able to point you to a Raspberry Pi complete laptop or tablet, but it seems that such things are limited and using a rather old RPi (3 or 3B). I would recommend a Raspberry Pi 4. There is a version which is built into a keyboard, which has three USB inputs (one is USB 3), and an HDMI output with sound. But then there's the power supply to add. A powerbank might do the RPI-400. You could use an iPad (or similar) as the display using VNC. https://www.raspberrypi.org/products/raspberry-pi-400/ https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/vnc-viewer-remote-desktop/id352019548 Your Linux experience will be valuable, and there's a lot of help out there for the newer bits. GUI Linux, though, is almost at the level where if somebody wants Web browsing and office functions they wouldn't even know it was Linux underneath. Almost. Hi Simon,
I know you said screenshots but I video'd the process through recording with some attentuation changes and immediately playing back the recorded file to demonstrate. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CoB2blGtPsg If you want any specific screengrabs I can take them. I'll record a short IQ file later, can someone suggest a free hosting site for large files? Paul

Re: Elad S3 recording bug
Well,
If the pre-amp is off then I can’t record with it on – the recorded data is the same as displayed on the console windows. If the recorded data IQ is high then enabling playback gain would foobar it I think.
Anyway, screenshots and a recording will lead us to the problem.
BTW – off out soon, I thought I had sprained a foot, seems I may have gout!

I think what Paul means is... Is Console recording with the pre-amp enabled, regardless of what he set it to before the recording? Paul.. forgot to ask.. while you are recording, does listening around look as it should, but when you play back, it's FUBAR? If it does, then a screenshot while recording, and uploading a short IQ file exhibiting the issue as Simon suggests, is the way to go. ================================ On 15/06/2021 13:04, Simon Brown wrote:

Pointing towards our local broadcast FM mast signals can reach 80dBuV so are at the very limit of the S3 signal handling. Overloading can be mitigated by switching off the software preamp or adding some attenuation. The problem is when recorded files are played back it appears the preamp was active during the recording, I'm not sure how this is possible because listening live whilst recording everything appears to be working correctly. I've re run the test using Elads SW2 software and playback is indentical to recording. -- - + - + -
