Beta features not in the current release ?? #sdrconsole

Rich

I came across a you tube video that demo's the SRD Console V3 Beta ...    In it has some features I would really like to have..
I have the latest version on SDR Console  I have loaded   is  Version 3.1 build 2320  Compiled Aug 2 2021.  I thought this would contain all the features I say in the video but if does NOT ??!

I can not find how to do this.   Perhaps someone could direct me where I can get this beta version.  I especially like to see the the Band plan  ...  Being a ham that has been out operation for awhile  this is a very nice feature to highlight sections of  the band  .. and it can be modified if need  for other info ... Like  a bar at the bottom of the spectrum    it could reflect the CW portion  of the band  or   you might add  a digital mode like PSK  or RTTY  .. In the Beta version  it was very nicely done   ...  I am constantly having to configure UNO   and sometime I think  I spend more timing doing this ...then actually listening.   [Simon   I have followed this program forever ..  and I think it is the best !]
Wish there are more You Tube videos ...  with tips for all the different configurable optiond ...    I tried to get adjusted to UNO... but I have an ANAN 100   that I would love to get this program working with it...    Thanks to you  .. my retirement is going be better  !

NEVER NEVER NEVER USE OFFSET ON THE BIRD!!! not with lime and not with the pluto

otherwise a spurii may cause trouble on another ones frequency!!

offset is ONLY used in local terrestrical contacts (that the carriers rest does not block your rx signal) but then you maybe would not use fullduplex but halfduplex

fullduplex may work with local contacts on a repeater but then also no offset is needed (repeater gives the offset so rx and tx are already not on same qrg)

Simon .. in my view you could/should complete delete the offset setting in radio setup and set it fixed to 0kc

if you have not found a good iq calibration (lime is a good example) then that carrier rest is at your 0hz spot and does not hurt other qsos (and you see it in if view and press tx calibration till it is gone) ... if you use an offset of say plus or minus 50 or 100 kc (or whatever) you may send out that carrier rest on another spot and do not see it (in first view)

you even may transmit outside the band (and thats for sure not ok!!)

so repeat ... NEVER NEVER EVER use offset tuning!!!!

second ... your pluto setup is NOT tuned correct (you should not have an xit setting of -10kc)

and third ... your lnb setting should be (after tuning xo correction) set that you get the beacon closer to 750 ;-)

Re: Pluto:: Spurious Emissions

hello jacques

i measured the spurious emissions on 13 cm from the pluto ... sdrc is not causing that ... it is an slight iq imbalance (so where it is depends on where you transmit) ... these spurii are lower when you use lower power but they are still there

thats why i recommend to add a bit more gain behind the pluto and use lower drive settings in it

to be in fcc rules you should keep the power VERY LOW

if you keep the pwr of the pluto at (example) -20 dbm you have -58 to -60 dbc (level of spurii compared to tune signal) and if then (depending on dish size and amp) your signal is at 40 db over noise the spurii are still 20 db below transpondernoise (and 40 db is already OVER beacon level!!)

so ... what you see and measure is quite normal on the pluto

sidenote a good warmed up pluto and a stable clock results in cleaner signals cause the iq calculation on boot shows better results

the chips spread a bit as the results differ a bit from boot up to boot up (no idea why .. maybe rounding errors on the iq calibration?!?) but if you keep the drive lower the spurii fall below transpondernoise and will not hurt anybody

DUO is very probably not seeing the same signal level as the 3000.

Hi again

Thinking about this..I wonder if the duo with sdrc is “ not seeing “ what the 3000 is..ie duo is “ seeing “ the whole rx spectrum and hence not adjusting its signal level when the phaser is in operation? Sorry for poor explanation, but qro amps, antennas etc are my thing..still much to learn about sdr’s..

I do use antenna out to drive the duo, maybe i should use if out( with suitable if offset settings on sdrc)

Ps the Cornwall 160-40m special amp is coming along nicely..

Re s meter on sdrc vs 3000.. s1 on 3000= s3.5 on sdrc…s5 on 3000 =s4 on sdrc, would be nice to be able to adjust s meter or linearity on spectrum to match.

Thanks Other Simon

Simon

Will there be away to “adjust” the relative s meter reading on sdrc ever?

I ask as it would be nice to have it adjustable ( say the scale on the side of waterfall/ spectrum) so as to read the same as main rx.

To explain I use the elad duo as a second rx and panadapter on my ftdx3000. The s meter readings are often well out mainly below s7. ( ie 3000 says s3..sdrc says s5 or 6)
As i use phasers against noise antennas here, it would be very very useful to see the decrease in general noise floor when adjusting. The 3000 s meter shows this but not the sdrc s meter.( when fine tuning.it just stays the same.)

Hopefully i have explained this to your understanding? ?

By the way house for sale in 3 months!! Cornwall here we come..looking at properties between truro and helston..will take bribes to move nearer bude..

SDR Console does not use the correction tables for signal levels provided by SDRplay for S meter calibration so the readings are way off.  SDRuno does use these tables and readings are accurate to +/-1 dBm.  I have verified this with my signal generator using both programs.

Another related issue. There was a long debate a while ago in this group about whether the S  meter should indicate the total average power in the selected bandwidth or the power of the strongest signal (like the carrier for AM reception).  I believe SDR Console measures the latter and SDRuno measures the former.

Re: Pluto:: Spurious Emissions

Ken Sejkora

Hello Jacques,

Based on the image, it look as though you are using an external spectrum analyzer to measure an RF emission *FROM* your Pluto.  I wouldn't think that SDR Console would be the cause of that spurious emission, but rather it is originating in the Pluto hardware itself.  Does the emission still exist even when the Pluto is not being 'operated' by SDR Console, that is, with SDRC not activated?  Is the emission still present if operating the Pluto with SDR software *other* than SDRC?

I would suspect the spurious emission is being generated by the Pluto itself, and has nothing to do with SDRC.  Just my guess anyway.  I hope it helps.  Good luck and 73

Wrong guess. Ground mod has been done long time ago. Made it better, but did not solve it completely. Crossing my fingers that it is now 100% stable. At first it would crash randomly. After the ground mod only when the lights in my basement (with motion detector) went on. Now with the DC-DC convertor, it stays working event if the basement lights go on.
