Server Question: "No V3 Server Found" ?

Hi,

Still trying to get up to speed with using Servers.

I keep getting the msg. "No V3 Servers Found"

I have been trying to follow all the steps below; see the * items.  What am I likely missing, or doing incorrectly ?
I do select one that shows, apparently, that is available.

                  Add Definition

                      To connect to a server you must first add a server definition:

 

  1.                      From the ribbon bar select Home, Radio, Select Radio.
  2.                      In the Select Radio window click Definitions...
  3.                     In the Radio Definitions window select V3 Server at the bottom of the Search list.
  4.                     The Autodetect window is displayed.
  5. *Either:
  6. Enter the Address, Username and Password, then press Select, or
  7. *Select a worldwide server from the SDRSpace.com list.
  8.                  *If the server can be contacted a list of radios is displayed.
  9.                   *Now press OK.
  10.  
  11.      A new entry is added to the Radio Definitions window.  NOPE
Enable tx for Xiegu g90

I have tranceiver set up as external radio using the g90 iq output and connected to the g90 via omnirig. Is it poss to enable tx from console. The fq displays OK on console and can change fq by clicking the waterfall I assume the connection to g90 is via CAT. HRD can enable tx via the cat connection when I have used it in the  past

I was wondering about the time issue because I want the recording to start at local midnight.  However, I told the scheduler to use UTC and I can see that it does because it handled the schedule I ran previously OK.  Local midnight is 1700 UTC which you can see in the screenshot.

 

I'm still baffled...

It seems I used up my one free schedule.

 

I copied the schedule definition I successfully used a half hour ago and edited the Title, Start time and Duration.  However, the schedule doesn't appear in the box at the bottom of the Scheduled Recording editor window and the OK button is grayed out.  I'm using a copy of a schedule definition that just worked fine so I'm baffled as to why I can't save this new definition.  

 

Screenshot attached.  Did I leave something out?

 

Any assistance will be gratefully received.

I haven't used SDRC in about 3 years, but am now in a new house in a quiet location so my DXing life can continue.

I'm creating some schedules so I can make some recordings tonight, and I could have sworn there used to be a way to highlight a particular definition and edit it...but I'm not seeing it.  Can anyone help?

Installing the "XML Tools" and choosing "Pretty print" the indentation and line breaks are as expected.
Now it is easy to read the code.

BTW Frank, not much here from western Canada on the MW-band this season. We usually have at least a few openings to the west coast but this year mostly east coast stations coming through.
Listening to music on CKNB on 950 kHz with nice quality while writing this.

Hi Ingolf,

You have to add the XML plugin to Notepad++ and then select "Pretty print" or "Pretty print - indent attributes" in the XML Tools menu under Plugins to reformat the XML file for a more attractive appearance on-screen.


In days of old, Notepad++ reformatted the XML file automatically but I suppose the newer versions of the program rely on the plugin.

I have installed it, but still all the lines are not separated.
If I look in a Web-browser the lines are nicely indented and each statement in it's own row.





Maybe there is a way to get a better structured view in NotePad++? But how to?

My experience with the V dipoles is that they aren’t immune to polarization shifts. It’s quite possible that you weren’t seeing nulls in the pattern as much as nulls due to polarization changes as the bird rotates in relation to the fixed ground station.
Adding the strange reflector may be providing a fluke bounce back to the V that helps with the nulls.
At these frequencies, the height of the antenna above ground (as long as it’s more than a few wavelengths) should have negligible affect on signal strength as long as the antenna has line of sight to the transmitter.

Did you end up connecting the reflector to the coax shield?
Is it grounded in any other way (clamped to the support)?

The 137MHz noaa is quite powerful and it’s easy to overthink the antenna. I’ve had excellent results from almost anything I’ve used. From a 250’ piece of electric fence (no balun or anything to restrict bandwidth) 5’ off the ground to my 144/440 commercial ham radio antenna.

In my experience, there have only been two factors affecting reception of 137MHz birds.
1) polarization shifts causing sharp nulls during the pass
2) Line of sight being blocked by trees, buildings, other antennas, etc.

The QFH is known to be the best compromise, simply because it’s relatively immune to polarization changes and is still also pretty omnidirectional.

You do NOT really want an antenna with gain in the vertical direction. That’s when the bird is closest so it’s just wasted.

Gain comes from somewhere… it’s not magic.
if you have gain in any given direction it’s at the expense of gain in another direction. Take a balloon and squeeze it into a donut. You’ve just made a vertical dipole. Now push in one side (you will need three hands) you’ve just made a yagi, assuming you didn’t pop the balloon.

My first weather sat receiver was a modified broadcast FM tuner, an oscilloscope for a display with a Polaroid camera to capture the image and a reel to reel tape recorder to keep repeating the pass till I got the scope tweaked for any kind of image. I did use a multi element yagi on that as it was quite deaf so I spent much time on the roof manually tracking the bird.
I’m sure there are school safety regulations now that wouldn’t let it happen! Sure wish I had some of those recordings or Polaroids now!

Have fun, experiment and whether it works or not, try to figure out why.

For the last 10 years or so I've been using a QFH - quadrifilar helix . with a preamp and as long as the Sats are 2deg above the horizon , then excellent signals. In fact I use this antenna with airspy SDR for all VHF signal reception

But then I can at least see the various fields in (what for me) is a more orderly way of viewing them and knowing which radio definition line I'm on.

Looks like some option in Notepad++ is set to not recognize the <> line separators. Here is what the file looks like on my system when viewed in notepad++

Unchecking "Word wrap" results in one loooong line of statements for me with the SDRC Radio Definitions file.
I am using NotePad++ v8.2 64 bit.

At least for me, when viewing these files in Notepad++, 'Word wrap' must be turned OFF.

Menu Bar>View>Word wrap = unchecked.

This produces the desired result.
