Unfortunately this is back to unresolved.

Switching to shared worked for a short period and then stopped working.

I'm going to look at the software loaded on the laptop (my old work system) and see if there are any programs that might be potentially trying to grab the microphone, and remove them.

Hi,

Thinking about this, it must be related to ‘Exclusive mode’ access to the microphone, this reduces latency but bypasses a lot of the Windows audio mixing. I’ll make a kit where Exclusive mode is optional then invite you to the test team to have a play.

Anan 100

G'day,

I've a relativly old model of Apache. i.e a Anan100 which serves me well for General RX and a bit of datamodes

Am I missing something, as RF gain seems to be down compared with Thetis 2.9.0.6

I've lifted the RF gain by +25 in radio definitions which has improved things, but is there something else I need to adjust ?

it has a clock of max 300 megs and up ot 900 or 1500 is done with 3dr or fifth harminic (so perfomanxe is only "soso" at higher bands)

go and get a nanvna v2 ... or saa2n ... or v2plus4 .... or ...litevna or ... .. ...  (so many newer designs now on the market)

Hi,

Thinking about this, it must be related to ‘Exclusive mode’ access to the microphone, this reduces latency but bypasses a lot of the Windows audio mixing. I’ll make a kit where Exclusive mode is optional then invite you to the test team to have a play.

Subject: Re: [SDR-Radio] PlutoPlus & SDR Console - Garbled audio

Hi,

Thinking about this, it must be related to ‘Exclusive mode’ access to the microphone, this reduces latency but bypasses a lot of the Windows audio mixing. I’ll make a kit where Exclusive mode is optional then invite you to the test team to have a play.

Don,

Option already present!

  • Press […] on the right of Tune.
  • Select Audio In, Shared Mode.
  • Select Shared, then restart.
  • Using the Record button is a good way to send me audio files (as you did previously).

Progress!!! - The "Internal Microphone Array" is working and clear on record so I expect it to be clear to receiving stations.

The Yeti (second MIC tested) only has 2-channel options and is USB connected to a USB hub connected directly to the laptop.

The Logitech headset (original MIC) only has 1-channel options and is USB connected to the laptop docking station.

It looks like USB is the issue - it must be picking up noise there.

I have a USB extension I could try which is shielded pretty well.

Good.  This must be a microphone setting, I’ve compared your log to mine and there’s no difference.

In the Device properties show me the window (below). I wonder whether there are some special options?

Um, er, it might right there staring him in his face, among all the odd settings. He's about 4 kHz off calibration; his audio is muted so of course he will hear nothing; he has gain set to maximum and video gain set to -30; he is set to full duplex (try simplex, make it work, then try duplex if needed); TX side has gains maxed out (overload can produce odd effects); RF bandwidth is a tad small for WX broadcasts; and I lost interest looking for more. (I have noticed that out of a fairly narrow band of Visual Gain settings the radio will blank. That suggests me Video Gain is not really only a gain for the spectrum related displays.

He should try 12 kHz bandwidth. It will sound better. (He should NEVER try to transmit on that frequency. Never Never Never. I hope he didn't try it.) NOAA broadcasts are a wide NFM rather than the narrower deviation hams and many other services use. Channels are 25 kHz.

Is his antenna connected to RX or TX side? Is he set to use Pluto's AGC? (I don't trust it. Is there a strong signal out of his display range that is suppressing Pluto's gain?)

Is he set to NFM?

Simon, you might do some good to place current mode and IF bandwidth down in the status bar.

Hi,

  1. PlutoPlus – first time I’ve seen this, I know it exists but you’re the first I’ve encountered using it.
  2. On the top right of your screenshot there’s an Auto button – press it see we can see the waterfall better and know what you’re trying to demodulate.
  3. Try offset tuning – don’t have the signal you want to demodulate in the center of the display, there may be a spur there (I think this is the case).
  4. In the Receive panel on the left:
    1. Close the audio display window – not needed (click the button next to the audio level a few times).
    2. Scroll down so we can see the Radio settings, I expect this is the problem, gains need adjusting.
  1. We’ll find the problem!

Don,

Thanks – a test you can make is to use the Monitor in the Transmit panel, just listen wile in RX. This will tell me whether I’m getting good data from the microphone. If that’s OK but the TX audio isn’t then it’s further down the line.

I’ve occasionally encountered this myself.

complete and unedited Screen shot using the screenshot tool will be most beneficial for us to help you.

Especially taken when it is acting up. There’s an important bar graph meter in the lower ribbon bar that will probably leave us to some conclusion.

Re: PlutoPlus & SDR Console - Garbled audio

Simon Brown

Keith,

Thanks – a test you can make is to use the Monitor in the Transmit panel, just listen wile in RX. This will tell me whether I’m getting good data from the microphone. If that’s OK but the TX audio isn’t then it’s further down the line.

My station PC upgraded to Windows 11 a few days ago, I’ll test on that now and see how it sounds.

Hi Simon

This is the first opportunity I have had to post as have been away for work.

But I have the exact same problem here.

My system is

Windows 11 PC

Pluto connected via network

Berhinger USB UMC-22 audio interface.

The issue was still there with my USB head set combo

Last Sunday when I went to TX the audio was all garbled to the point that it was unusable

I have checked more or less all that has been suggested here including a DFU refresh and a reload of the Pluto firmware but with no change.

Looking back at the PC update history all of the issues seem to have started after the most Win 11 update.

I need to find and look at what this update did.

Now I am back home I am going to roll back the update and see if this fixes my issues but will keep following this with interest.
