Re: Nvidia CUDA performance on PCI-E gen. 1.1 slot?
Hi,
In V3 you see how much CPU the FFT is using. To be honest – you need a new / better computer. I use a 2 GHz Core2Duo laptop with 32-bit Windows 7 for testing, the most recent V3 kit 9not yet available) does use fewer resources.
What radio are you using?

Nvidia CUDA performance on PCI-E gen. 1.1 slot?
kp3ft@...
Hi all, New to the group, and SDR in general. Recently bought an SDRplay RSP2 and really like SDR Console, I just prefer it over any other software I've tried. Anyway, I'm wondering if CUDA will function OK if a generation 3 PCI-E Nvidia card is in an old generation 1.1 PCI-E x16 slot. My motherboard is a Core2 with an x16 PCI-E gen. 1.1 slot, and I'd like to get an Nvidia card with 3.0 compute-capability for it, maybe a GTX-650. I know a gen. 3 PCI-E card is backwards-compatible with gen. 1.1 PCI-E, but not sure about what effect it would have on CUDA. I'll eventually get a newer i5 or i7 machine, but there's no way I can afford it at this time, so I have to use this old setup for now. The card that's in it now is an ancient 64mb Radeon x300. The CPU averages around 50% with SDR Console 2.3 at 6 MHz bandwidth, three VFOs, and four instances of WSJT-X running. But, the CPU spikes up into the 90's % when doing other tasks like internet browsing. And wow, SDR Console 3 looks really nice! I tried it but unfortunately it really taxes my old system. Hoping CUDA will allow me to run it. - DFI P965-S Infinity motherboard - Core2 Quad Q6700 overclocked to 3.15 GHz - 4GB RAM DDR2 6400 - generation 1.1 PCI-E x16 slot - Win7 32-bit, Linux Mint 18.1, Skywave Linux (Ubuntu 16.04) Thanks for any help, 73 Jeff KP3FT |

Thanks for the info Mike. Are you able to reference my email address here? I have a couple of SDR questions for you.
I can't seem to reply to you, just the group reply. Not sure how it works now. Paul |

Rookie Help Please
Scott Day
I followed instructions for completing all downloads for V3. Would not work. All was deleted to try again but now I have a computer problem. Very new pc with Windows 10, now I hear the constant "ding" of a device connecting and unconnecting to a USB port. Any help with this problem is greatly appreciated. Re: Intel's Skylake and Kaby Lake CPUs have nasty hyper-threading bug
mcayton@...
Paul,
It's a Z170A SLI PLUS. I really appreciate the fact that it's virtually RFI-free (which is hugely important in my case, given that it's my shack computer and the case is actually a gaming tower with a giant window cut out of the side cover). After I ordered it, I was worrying myself sick over the possibility that vast amounts of RFI would be escaping from the insides of the machine, but when it arrived I was amazed to find the entire computer is almost completely RFI-silent! The computer was built for me by IBUYPOWER in California. They build gaming machines but they'll let you spec whatever components you want. I think they have an outlet in Europe too. Hi Mark,
What model number MSI motherboard are you using with your i7-6700K? Thanks, Paul N1DPW |

Re: Intel's Skylake and Kaby Lake CPUs have nasty hyper-threading bug
mcayton@...
Thanks for the heads-up, Simon. I've decided I'm not going to lose any sleep over it. I've thrashed my i7-6700K mercilessly (and intentionally) over the last year using various stress tests with not a whimper out of it. I don't run any mission critical applications. The flaw has existed since Skylake's birth, yet I haven't heard of anyone actually experiencing any problem up to the present. I'm confident my motherboard manufacturer (MSI) will come out with a patched BIOS as soon as they are able. My system is set up to automatically notify me of any such updates as soon as they are made available from MSI. I've seen the issue being discussed yesterday on MSI's forum, and I'm sure the problem has their attention. I'm not worried enough to disable hyperthreading. Thanks again, Mark KF5VQY |

SDRConsole V3 & CW Skimmer - Different User
eckerpw@...
I know there has been a recent thread going on this subject and I have read those postings but I have still not been able to get my instance of these two programs playing nicely. I have SDR Console V3 build 811 & v1.91 of Skimmer. The Radio is an RSP2. I am using VB Audio virtual Cable v 1.03.5. I am using microHam USB Router 8.8.2 for creating virtual audio cables. All this is on a Win10 64 bit PC. CW Skimmer is seeing and decoding signals. My problems are: - I can't get the CAT interface to work, so the freq of the SDR Console is not showing in CW Skimmer - I have a huge swath of of noise, red in color that is covering the top 1/3 of the waterfall and another smaller blue yellow band of noise just below the midpoint of the waterfall. At times these noise bands move. It would be great to hook up with someone who who has a similar setup working smoothly to compare configurations so I could figure out where I have gone astray. I can provide screen shots of settings, etc. Paul kc2nyu |

Servers used list
Alan Reinhart <avres@...>
I've just began trying SDR-RADIO 2, and am quite taken with all the
capabilities! I do not plan to use any dongles or hardware with
the
software - the online servers are adequate for my needs.
However I've found no way to create a list of favorite SERVERS. When I scan the web and get a list of servers back and select one - the next window where the connection is made has a save option - but only the IP of the server is shown. It would be great to have a 'favorite server' list where a meaningful name could be added to avoid scrolling thru the list of 90+ severs - and always having to start at the top... and hope you can remember the name of the server you just found! Hopefully this feature is already in - just haven't been able to figure out how to do it. =Alan R W2AVR |

Paul, Mark,
Thank you for your suggestions but unfortunately, it seems that SDRConsole always put the IQ "0" at the middle of the WF ;-(. Attached is a SC of HDSDR on which tuning the FCD far from the receiving frequency allows having a "clean" environment before and after this receiving frequency. 73's de J-Luc F1JEK |

Find the bar at the bottom that indicates the range that your FCD+ is currently covering (192k widej...left click & drag that bar to either side...I think that might be what you're after...if not, sorry I misunderstood...

You can zoom in, so that the IQ is out of the window, I think that's what you want to achieve, so us a screen shot of what you are doing in HDSDR??? Paul - NN4F On Mon, Jun 26, 2017 at 1:36 PM, f1jek@... [sdr-radio-com] <sdr-radio-com@...> wrote:

How to tune far from the center frequency ?
f1jek
Hi,
I have a FCD dongle and for example 96kHz available to the left and the right of the tuning frequency, where the I/Q autobalance creates a "hole" and a light cloud of noise. Imagine that I want to tune at 48kHz from the center, to get +-48kHz "clean" to both sides of my tuning frequency. This is easy to achieve with HDSDR for example, which has 2 displays: the tuning frequency and the receiving one. But with Sdr-console ? regards J-Luc F1JEK |

Re: CWSkimmer and SDRPlay1
Dick Grote
I remember when you posted this. I have my audio-out sent to the computer speakers. I diddled with the audio-out configuration just to double check, but DXSkimmer/SDR Console frequencies are still out of alignment.
I'm afraid that there is something else going on in my situation. Thanks, Dick |

Re: CWSkimmer and SDRPlay1
Benton Jackson
It's been awhile since I was using CWSkimmer on a free trial, but I had a similar problem. The problem was that I was setting the audio-out of SDR-Console to a virtual cable- but setting CWSkimmer mode in SDR-Console already puts a signal on that, so it was doubling up.

Thank you for your reply. Attached, 3 files: -1- Before changing the K3's frequency from 14.076MHz to 14.077MHz -2- After the frequency "QSY", the spectrum don't correspond to the scale (and displayed values); the zoom value is modified with the QSY. -3- After manually adjusting the zoom, the spectrum correspond to the new frequency. I'm certainly missing something... 73 QRO, Rudi, HB9ARI Le 25.06.2017 à 21:15, 'Simon Brown'
