Would it be possible to reduce the size of recorded data file

Mark Cayton <mcayton@...>

Simon,

If the operator could select an option to record only the visible bandwidth in the session window (instead of the entire receiver bandwidth), it would make the resulting recorded file size much smaller in many cases.

Would that perhaps be an option at some point in the future?

Thank you for everything you do,

Ditto Paul Goelz comments

My RSP2 is far from disappointing on HF.

Propagation conditions are still iffy on the HF bands
these days but when they open up a bit, the RSP2 + SDR Console
is a real treat.

Out of curiosity, what did you find "very disappointing" about the
RSP2 on HF? I could not be happier with mine. Other than some very
minor aliasing, I find it has no bad habits at all.

I am still trying to figure out what all the fuss is about over the
Airspy HF+. I can see where on paper, it is a superior design. But
in the real world connected to a real antenna and tuning the HF
bands, I fail to see how it will make my life better than it is now
with the RSP2.

Hi all.

I have installed Windows 10 yesterday and i have a X-FI titanium pci-e in my computer.
I also installed the "newest" version of SDR Console v3, .. but when i try to use it the sound is terrible.
I trie to change buffer and stuff but it doesent seems to help.

Do someone have any ideas.

IQ File splitter

Mark Pettifor

Is there a way to split recorded IQ files into smaller segments using SDR-Console? I had the default file size set to 2GB for a while, now I've set it to 1GB. I want to go back to ones recorded at 2Gb size and split them into 1GB segments.

Is that something that File Analyzer can (or could) do? Is the File Analyzer still available? I think that was a tool available in earlier versions, yes?

I will go back to 940 and send a screenshot.

I'm pretty certain that the panadaptor operation wasn't a play here since I had reset V3 and hence the external radio wasn't enabled.

OK,

Please send a screenshot after the radio has started and before you start clicking on things.

Try disabling the panadapter?

I've had a few instances when V3 wouldn't start with earlier builds and was able to reset out of the issue. After a few days of operation on 940, I got to the point where it locked up and there was nothing I could do to enable a reset.  I start the program, pick my radio, and then the display looks fine until I click on anything.  At this point the Windows activity circle starts rotating and after few seconds the screen dulls.  I then can't close the program anyway other than restarting the computer.  I used the Restart Utility to clear the registry and User Ident0 files, clicked reset on the utility and V3 immediately does the same thing. It won't start.  After fooling around for an hour or so, I went back to build 845 and V3 started immediately and has been rock solid for several days.

I'm running on a Win7, 64 bit using RSP1 as a panadaptor.  I leave V3 running all the time during the day.

I can sit tight as things are fine for me with 845, but if there is any information that I provide or further tests I can run, I'm very happy to do this.

LimeSDR Transmit

tblake84@...

Hey Simon,

Just wondering what the development roadmap looks like for transmit functionality with the LimeSDR?  I have been using SDRangel to test this out for now but SDR Console is so much better and am anxiously awaiting the release of this capability.

Thanks,
Tim

Exactly the symptoms here, tho the cause may be different.  We killed the program with [CTL ALT DEL] to bring up Task Manager.

Once Task Manager was open we observed the RAM usage heading for the sky before we shut down V3.

This was one win7 machine only... the only one with the NVIDIA gtx750.

All eight others here are just fine. Most, but not all, are win10.

Btw, our current 'shiny object' here is the MINIX-pro x64 with no moving parts. We added a microSD chip and are deploying it in go-kits and as remote RMS gateways for Winlink and as our video conference server on our private, countywide Ubiquity LAN.  It has four USB ports, HDMI, and an actual ethernet port. It runs the sdrplay under V3 up to 2 MHz span... and IT RUNS ON 12VDC!

Thanks for your comments Ignacio, so problem solved !
Now I have to understand why the boot is that long (1 minute running a SSD, hum, there must be something wrong, once again ...).

No NVDIA card Ray, this is an integrated AMD Radeon R7 (with latest drivers installed) that does not support CUDA but the problem also occurs when loading other SDR programs such as Elad SW2 (native program of my SDR, 52" to load !), or Studio 1 as well. This is not a specific issue I have when running v3.

Hi,

I have a similar problem in my wife's PC: the front panel USB 2 ports are slower than the rear ones. Even I get a message when starting a copy from a USB memory that says something like: the copy will be slow in this port, use a faster port. Maybe some of these ports are mean for mice or headphones.

I indeed have both 2.0 and 3.0 on front.
Why not use an extension? It has often been noted that all USB ports are not the same.
Maybe a different internal hub or something else on that hub slowing it down but some simply act differently.

One thing you could do if you need "Front" side access is to use a USB extension cable (USB Male-to-Female) cable from the rear port long enough to reach where it needs to go but no longer. Put some snap-on magnetic "cores" on it to reduce "noise" and it should do the job.
