Re: SMA antenna switcher?

This is an interesting topic. I use the Armstrong method of aerial switching and use F-type connectors with an SMA-F adaptor for cheapness. The basic question though is how many aerials you want to switch and whether you have plans for transmitting rather than just receiving? An ideal receive solution might be to make a switch in a diecast box and if you don't like electromechanical relays use perhaps PIN diodes or a PIN/Schottky diode pairs or even FETs. An advantage in designing your own would be that you can add filters. Depending on the distance you need to operate the switch and how many aerials you need to switch you could use a length of CAT5 cable which has 8 wires which could select one of seven aerials. woops. no it doesn't work fine with rtl_server. just checked. Both servers sometimes start off ok then after a few seconds the stutter starts and gets worse.

Tried all bandwidths 8 bit, 16,24.32 all the same. Tried all bandwidths as well. Even when listening to the noise floor I get it. Also the noise floor moves up an down. It is less noticeable on very strong signals.

Voice muting for overload perhaps.

I think the problem will be bandwidth-related, you can try reducing the bandwidth, bit size and increasing the buffering.

Search for "RF coaxial relay" on ebay and you'll find a heap of Chinese, Russian and Israeli surplus RF switches with varying configurations on the market. Alternatively look at the Tohtsu series for new stock out of Japan, rf parts shop or ebay. Going cheaper if you can still find the Omron G6Z series of coaxial RF relays they were good to UHF at low-ish powers. With these sorts of switches you pay for what you get. 73 Matthew VK5ZM On 27 October 2017 at 04:07, Andrew Sutcliffe <skywatch@...> wrote: Hi |

HiWhy not buy some adapters to/from type N? There are lots of switches, manual and relay-type for type N, and should be cheaper than type SMA. Also, SMA are limited in power level, but if you already have SMA you know that. Anything but UHF!!! --doug, WA2SAY--retired RF engineer |

I use $20 sma failsafe relays from ebay.
As these are what i would call make or break relays you could easily use a sonoff type wifi switch for remote access.
