Re: SDR Console with W11
Chris van Lint
You learn something every day. I did not
realise that there is no need to uninstall the DAB driver before
using Zadig to install the correct one. I am afraid that your
instructions to use VID and PID and the reference to WCID
Driver are beyond my pay grade and do not quite know how to go
about that. I agree with the comments on the E4000 front end,
also echoed by other contributors. I have found that for
working around 1.6GHz they appear to perform better. In my
somewhat simplistic analysis of how these things work, I thought
that the communication between the PC and the dongle is handled
by the RTL2838UHIDIR chip and that the R820T/E4000 is the actual
tuner or front end. Again this leads me to assume that this
observation is confirmed by the fact that neither the E4000 nor
the RTL820T dongle work. Other SDRs
such as the Airspy HF+ and the SDRPlay work fine on this W11 PC. On 1/08/2022 11:25, jdow wrote:

One of the problems with written comments is that subtle nuances can easily be misinterpreted without having the opportunity to clarify. From your response it would appear that I have offended you. It was not my intention to be sarcastic. I simply wanted to highlight the fact that I am aware that my knowledge of SDR software is very limited, but that I have managed to get some reasonable results using SDR-C in the past. If I have offended you, I do apologise and for the record I do not think that you are a stupid dolt. Quite to the contrary; I have read some of your comments on this list and it is obvious that you know your stuff. I have to confess that a lot of it is sort of outside my comfort zone in terms of understanding.. As to figuring it out myself, I have decided not to pursue this issue any further. Everything works fine on my Laptop W10 and to other HP PCs running W10, which are currently packed away. Cheers, Chris On 1/08/2022 11:05, jdow wrote:

for shortwave that may work ... but i need vhf uhf shf (and maybe higher with transverters) and as far as i know cat does not support such high "bands" very well vhf uhf may work ... but 6cm or higher?? i was thinking of direct control of usb relays from console
(there are 8 and even 16 channel boards available) ... not a box
that grabs cat command and translated that with an arduino ...
that works surely with your hl2 but i want to use it with a pluto

Hi Sigi,
Yes the idea is to use the relay to switch a small coax relay. Simon, For some reason I didn't see the (latest?) details on the boards on your page. I have now ordered the 2-channel board and will test it when back home from my holidays in Norway. 73e Michael PA5M |

I have a couple dongles from nooelec, one from long ago and one the new txco design. They are both working, partly because I kept them cooler than the others. It's still worth sticking a small heat sink on the packages. {^_^} On 20220801 04:38:40, Dewey wrote:

With my Win8.1 set-up, I had to use the 3.09API with both SDRuno and SDR Console to get either to work. With the release and installation of of SDRuno 1.42.0728, the 3.10API (non-beta) worked with both SDRuno and SDR Console. Since I basically replaced my SDRplay RSP2 with the RSPdx at the same time, I also removed V2 from the system.. -- Mike On 8/1/2022 01:12:35, Simon Brown

All you need to do is mark the dongle as a WinUSB device that uses libusb. Your problem makes me think of one thing immediately. You exported SDRC settings from one machine, imported them from the other, and used whatever goofy instructions you found for running Zadig. Yes, Windows can install DAB stuff on the dongle. Do not interrupt it. Let it finish. THEN run Zadig, find the device by VID and PID. These may be different for older E400 dongles than for more modern R830T dongles. So you may have to run it twice for each dongle. I'm annoyed so you get to figure out the appropriate vid/pid pairs. Be careful. The 0bda vendor makes other stuff likely in your computer. Find a candidate and google the numbers. When you have a device candidate tell Zadig to "Install WCID Driver". Leave WinUSB selected. When running Zadig you do not have to log in as Adininistrator. You do have to use an account marked as one of the administrators and use the "Run as administrator" right click option. If Zadig has not been run properly and you did the export then import with SDRC it may be able to see a device but not use it. The only other thing I can think of is the possibility that Windows security features may mean you have to go into settings and allow SDRC to run the dongles. That may require a big long slog through settings. I'd start with devices or security. 11 has settings to make access to sound and video devices at a very granular level. This may exist for a "DAB" dongle even if it is now marked as a device using WinUSB.sys. I've not been following this discussion because - well - rtlsdr. Re: Contour Multimedia Controller Express & SDRC
martinbradford2001
I use the Contour Shuttle with Win4Yaesu and Tom has built in some very simple functionality which makes it work very well - perhaps something similar could be built into SDRC?
Tom catches four different key strokes at the application frame level : F9 and F10 which are interpreted as "tune down one frequency step" and "tune up one frequency step" and the plus and minus keys that are interpreted as increase and reduce the frequency step size. We program the wheel to send a stream of F9s and F10s depending on the direction it is turned and program the two large buttons on either side of the shuttle to send plus and minus keystrokes. The up and down arrow keys retain their current meanings, tied to whichever pane has focus... -- Martin G8FXC |

Not an argument, but I use the Nooelec RTL-SDR devices for my projects not requiring anything serious. I've been running seven of them 24/7 for over three year as trunked radio recorders, and have yet to encounter any problems whatsoever. Again, not an argument but just a mention that the Nooelec RTL-SDRs seem to stand up to demand. Now, back to your regularly scheduled programming. I have a Windows 11 thing here. I've not put an rtlsdr dongle on it. The one I have free, a V3 from rtlsdr.com, is broken so it's tossed on a shelf and out of reach. That little computer has a specific use. I bought a pair of AirSpy minis for it. They work.
I am not a fan of 11. And the delicacy of rtlsdr dongles has driven me away from the infernal beasts. (I have three dead ones now. Extended use seems to lead to strange things breaking inside them.

As far as i know usb relays only be used to switch ptt but not between antennas.. A band data out via usb could solve that.. Say you want to switch to the beam on 10 to 20m and to the dipole on 40 and 80m.. If your two antennas are one for transmit and (maybe a beverage) one for receive.. Ok then you could use a usb relay.
