Groups.io has quite a good search function using a single term , Mark .   I just did a search on "continuum" in the  SDR-Radio group, and you can see the discussion that led to Simon's work on this.

Example (message 66053):

(from SpectraVue manual:  "A continuum display for measuring spectral power over the entire span and/or the peak power within the span.")

The power is a single value displayed over time. The span can be set from one Hz to the full span being monitored.  It's derived from the FFT displayed.

I remembered that one because I sent it in, hi.   But the whole discussion is laid out quite well on the groups.io web page.

best wishes,

Nick

Hi Simon, Larry.

I can confirm that when I attempt to set a recording cache when setting up a recording preset under the data recording options and tick the box for the "cache" drop down, whatever value I select, no data is cached. When I replay the IQ file, the start time remains the same as when I hit the preset record button and I've checked the audio on the recordings, and it has not pre-fetched audio from before I hit record (in case it had cached data but not updated the time readout to allow for any cached data).

Thanks Simon for fixing the cached data. Just installed Build 2645 of SDR Console v3.2 Public Beta (replacing 2643 which I only installed when I got home!). I can confirm the recording buffer now works. The time is shown correctly. I used a 10 second buffer for my test. You don't even have to wait 10 seconds after you want the recording to finish, it will catch everything till the moment you press the stop button.

Re: V3.2 Beta

Sorry,

Had to go out. let's get rid of all files, so:

  1. Uninstall (select from the Windows menu)
  2. Make sure all files have been removed from the installation folder, usually: C:\Program Files\SDR-Radio.com (V3)
  3. Install.
  4. If you still have problems then make sure the redistributable kits are correctly installed, one of these files could be bad.
  5. Finally try a new identity
My gut feeling is a bad file on the system.

Using With An Icom R8600. Sr. Level (uncertainty) Questions Re Tuning

rmrrgs <rgsrose@...>

Hello,

I have a few basic, very, questions that I am frankly
a bit confused regarding. I'm a long time user of this truly incredible program,
but with other receivers. Will blame my simple-minded questions on old age now.
I have to admit that I miss many of the nuances these days.

Have downloaded the latest, V 3.2 Beta.
Have a new Icom R8600

a. The Horizontal bar below the Waterfall, I guess, shows Freq. and Span.

What is the significance of the yellow (vert.) band in the center ?
The radio is locked, as it is supposed to be. Any way of using with it Un-Locked ?

But, dragging this yellow bar "seems to" actually tune the radio. (the freq. it is on is Not reflected in the digital display of the program.
And, the radio (surprisingly) updates, and reflects the freq. that this bar is on, but also on the radio's display. Nice, since the radio is "locked".

The digital freq. readout, and the green bandwidth in the Spectrum View do not change.
*Any way of having this numerical value freq. displayed on the radio instead of the yellow bar freq. ?

Is dragging this yellow bar the best, or suggested, way to tune ?

b. Or, just enter a digital frequency for tuning in the program numerical display ?

If someone could explain some of the Nuances of what is happening,
and the "best" way of tuning the radio, would be appreciative.
Not having the radio display the freq. (other than dragging the yellow bar) is confusing.

Thanks,
Bob

Another thing I've never seen before is that the BugTrap GUI never manages to become the foreground window.

I can see it when I <Alt-Tab> among the top-windows. But it's always shadowed by your opening splash image.
But a huge (115 MByte) c:\temp\SDRConsole_error_report*.zip gets created eventually.

  • 32-bit or 64-bit?
  • Which kit did you download: Microsoft, Dropbox or Webhost?
This 8could* be a bad download but it shouldn't have installed were that the case. Please go back to the 3.1 release.
