Off Topic REALVNC Again

George Stein - NJ3H

Greetings,

I need help from some of the realVNC experts.

I was trying to install the professional trial version of VNC and I have totally messed things up.  So I tried deleting VNC and starting over with the home (free) version).  However it continues to show the professional edition trial and the home edition.  So, of course, I select the Home version.  I have added my desktop.

Now when I go back to my Android realvnc app, I only get one path into my desktop. I used to have two paths:  one for wifi connection and one using my ddns address.  I cannot get the app to accept the any but some default path.

I would really like to at least get vnc back to the way it was on my android.  I have deleted the app and reinstalled it.  I am afraid that the vnc people have made changes to it in the last 6 months that is keeping it from working.  Wish I had the old app file (I forget the file type) and a way to reinstall it.

I have sent messages to the realvnc folks but they all go unanswered even after weeks.  Just about fed up to here with this whole thing.

Any specific help with realvnc home edition would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,
George

Hi,

When writing code Delete is Delete. There's also an option to move to the recycle bin. As you say, these files may be too big.

I think this may be down to Windows limitations rather than Console. I usually get a message that the files are too big to recycle, and did I want to permanently delete them?

With SDRC you don't. I'm in a state of interruption on working up a hack work around.

Thanks for the info Joanne!
That's good news.
In the meantime: looks as if gain is permanent min, attenuation max and Bias-T off. Is that true?

Installed the new SDRuno and the new API, rebooted (Windows 10), ran Console (v3.2) and my RSPdx was found
and started without any need to go into definitions.

Hi Simon,

I installed the new SDRuno and the new API, I then ran console and deleted the SDR definitions, did a search for both my RSP2 and RSPdx, both were found so I added these new definitions and both work fine in Console.

Mike.

I'm able to get a RSP2 working with SDR-Console 3.2 and the 3.10 API in a clean windows VM.

I did not however install SDRuno but instead installed the beta 3.10 API.

Simon,

As I said earlier, I had already stepped back to the V3.09 API.  So to follow your instructions below I had to reload SDRuno 1.42 0720 with the V3.10 API.  The only difference this time was I disabled Bitdefender even though I received no warnings or errors with the initial install.

After the upgrade of uno and the API, and following the re-boot, Console does see and can use the RSP2.  No clue as to what is going on...but it is working.

Sorry for the Chicken Little moment this morning.

Good morning,

I had opened a ticket with the good people at SDRplay yesterday about my less-than-successful deployment of their V3.10 API with my RSP2.  Basically, both SDR Console V2.3 and V3.2 could no longer locate the RSP2.  SDR Console had no issue in locating my RSPduo.  I've been expecting SDR Console 2.3 to eventually go by the wayside but not loosing the use of the RSP2 with V3.2.

Below is their reply just received this morning.

Dear Michael Bott,

Hello Mike,

Unfortunately, there is nothing that we can do about this. We had to up-issue the API version to enable the use of a new 'user mode' driver that is required for most new Windows 11 systems. I am afraid you will need to contact the author of SDR Console and encourage them to add support for API v3.10 if you wish to use the latest version of SDRuno.

Please note that if you want to go back to v3.09, you will need to uninstall the new user mode driver that comes with v3.10 and ensure that the old kernel mode driver is installed. The way to check this is that the older driver will be listed under the 'Sound, video and game controllers' section of the Windows Device Manager whereas the new user mode driver sits under the 'Software Define Radio section'.

Best regards

Re: OmniRig Help Needed Please

Bruce Pea

Dennis,

BINGO!!! Thank you for your suggestion. You were correct, my radio uses COM3 and as soon as I switched it everything started working again as it should. I also switched rig type to TS-590 which works fine as well.

Thank you again for your help, it is very much appreciated!!!

Best wishes,
Bruce, N9WKE

Re: OmniRig Help Needed Please

Dennis Matzen

Bruce, I am not sure why you use a virtual COM port configuration. I have a TS-590S and my Omni-Rig setting uses the port of my radio. Based on what I see I think your radio might be connected to COM 3. Also, I use Rig type of TS-590.

So why don't you try changing your Onmi-Rig setting to Rig type: TS-590 and Port: COM3 and see what happens.
