Thanks Rolf.
Yes, of cause. Like with Zenmap or a similar S/W?
I did not think of that.
There I will get to see all ports available at the Pluto IP-address.
I will try that as soon as I get the cable I need to connect.

Hi Ingolf,
the internal website of pluto can be reached automatically with any browser on port 80 via the network address of pluto (entered in config.txt).
For me it is 192.168.0.49 because my network is set up in the 192.168.0.x area.
The browser automatically finds the start page index.html or pluto.php if the DATV firmware from F5OEO is installed.
The reachable address of pluto can easily be determined with a network scanner.
I use one from SoftPerfect.

Re: Issues Starting Console

Colin Hurst

George,

Very early in the days of Win10 I had my machine screwed up because of an update and reboot in the middle of the night.

For my satellite work I require my system to run 24/7/365 more or less.

After doing some research I applied the following work around.

Settings

Windows Update

Change active hours

I have my active hours set as

Current active hours: 17:00 to 11:00

I have the toggle set to Off : otherwise Windows will set it to a recommended value. I specifically required 5pm to 11am.

So if a Windows update appears between 5pm and 11am my machine  does not auto restart but puts up a message on my machine that an update is available and ready to be installed.

Then I can take the appropriate action.

On some days I may pause it for a couple of days or just go ahead and install.

There may be a better work around but this works for me.

I know just how a bid a pain in the backside a messed up system can be.

Hope this helps.

73 Colin VK5HI.

Hi Simon,

The program is now restarting.  The 5 receivers are listed in the window over SDRC that one has to choose from. They were not running when I made that previous screen capture.  I was getting a message that there were no receivers, which I took to mean in the list of defined receivers.

So at this point I cannot send you any additional screenshots as things have started working again.

Of course, the config information is all gone and I have to reset things up again.  My guess is that when the computer restarted after a windows update, Console did not close properly and the config file(s) were not closed properly and just got hosed up.

So what files (with locations) do I need to make a backup of to keep from having to redo the setup again?  I don't see where favorites and memories are stored, the icons in the title bar that I added next to the camera button, the various settings from the ribbon bars, etc.

I like having a single color under the spectrum line.  I recall I couldn't quite get that to happen when I changed the waterfall palette to a single color.  Console still applied a gradient to it.  I was hoping that there was a way to place a single color (with no gradient) without having to decimate the colors of the waterfall in doing so.

Anyway, thanks for your always present willingness to help me out.

George

To answer one of your original questions about ipaddr_host - that is the IP address given to the system you connect the Pluto to via the USB data port - on my Windows PC when I connect the Pluto there is a RDNIS Ethernet adapter that is created and assigned the address I put there in the Pluto configuration file - the Pluto also shows up as a drive letter too.  I use 192.168.2.1 for the Pluto and put 192.168.2.0 in the ipaddr_host field on the Pluto configuration side - the Pluto then assigns the .10 address to my PC.  Then I can use SSH (port 22) to connect to the Pluto for management and also to the built-in web server (on the Pluto).  In SDRCI also put the 192.168.2.1 in the radio configuration.

I actually have a Pluto Plus running the Pluto firmware currently and the Pluto Plus has a built-in ethernet which it looks like I will need to compile the custom firmware to make the built-in ethernet work on it.  Everything else seems to be working fine with the standard firmware. Hopefully I will find time to compile the Pluto Plus custom firmware among the many projects I have going.

Hi Don.

Thanks for your answer and the link.

The video did not answer my questions directly, but I draw the conclusion from it that the parameters under the [NETWORK] headline in the config.txt file is NOT active when using a USB to Ethernet adapter.
I still do not know what they do, but it seems that they are not important in my case.

I get the impression that it is the parameters under [USB_ETHERNET] governs it all in my case. That is good knowledge.
I will try using that when I finally get my Y-cable (that seems not to be really necessary at all).
I get the impression from the video that the USB to Ethernet adapter get powered from the "Data" USB Micro connection of the Pluto when the Pluto is powered through the "Power" USB Micro connector.

I will report back when I get my cable and can try it all out.

I think the S3 is natively providing 16 bit data, would others agree? In which case recording at 16 bit is exactly what I'd want? Or am I confusing specs?

Re: How To: Connect to Pluto via Ethernet (Network)?

Hi all.

One more question on this subject, if I may.

Has anyone seen what port number to use when connecting or doing Port Forward to the Pluto?

In Simon's example
https://www.sdr-radio.com/network-access
Port number "0" (zero) is used.

In the Analog Devices example
https://wiki.analog.com/university/tools/pluto/users/customizing#updating_to_the_ad9364
Port number "22" is mentioned.

In Don's video reference
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=11_twp5VIwA
the speaker connects to a internal Web-page in the Pluto and I assume that would be port "80" or port "443".

Does anyone have experience on this?

most fm stations have a compressed dynamic range so dab may sound better but if you hear THE SAME station on dab (to compare fm with dab) then you may have that same compression on the dab audio stream

... you hear digitalisation with 192k?? you must have "bat " ears :-)

ps ... i know a trick how to listen to dab stations in sdr radio console ... receive it with a pluto and retransmit in fm stereo (with software qt-dab) ... works superb and even supports RDS!!!

A beautiful design sadly crippled by a combination of an obsolete
inefficient codec (MP2) and commercial pressure to reduce bit rates in

I recall going into a HiFi shop with money burning a hole in my pocket

bought anything, having decided that FM sounded better.

Hi Rolf.
Thanks for your answer.
Yes, I am aware of this Web-page.
Unfortunately it does not answer my question, it only says the same thing as we can see in the config.txt file. It does not explain it in terms that I can relate to and use to modify it for my purpose.
Maybe I am just illiterate when it comes to the details and terminology in Network technology.
That's why I was asking here where I know there is a lot of knowledge in that area.

From memory,

the RFspace NetSDR returns 24-bit data for some sample rates, hance the option of storing as 32-bit floats. The data written is as received from the radio.

For 99.9% of cases 16-bit is fine.

I'm quite sure you gain nothing from using 32-bit recordings vs. 16-bit. I did compare the two with different kinds of DX a long time ago and found no difference. What you hear on 32-bit recordings you will hear equally well on 16-bit recordings. I don't know for MS DX of course, so setting up your own test might be useful.
