Great Software and some comparisons
davidjmessing
Hi Simon... Great Software, downloaded it Sunday evening and when I saw the Shortwave Broadcast Stations database, I was blown away.
Last year I started with the Elektor SDR and G8JCF software. Then went to Winrad and three weeks ago purchased the RFSpace SDR-IQ. Some things I like on Winrad that I would like to see options in the program. I like the more crisp wave forms in Winrad and SpetraVue, more like that of an oscilloscope. I notice a tall solid vertical base in comparison to the actual height of the wave. Its more difficult to analyze the wave. Could choice be added to get a different view of the wave? In Winrad AM a bandwith over 5kHz can be selected, and the ECSS really makes AM sound awesome. Can a bandwith for AM be extended above the 4kHZ? Just curious if drivers for the Elektor will be added?? Over the years I have several different photo editing software packages, each are used, depening on what has to be done. I see this with SDR software. I love the new software, but miss some of the items I mentioned. Plan to keep them all on the computer. Dave K0RWM |

Softrock Si570 control- Solved!
Ken , VK7KRJ <vk7krj@...>
Having a spot of lunch today and thinking about the problem, a thought suddenly struck me- how about I put the new version on to the remote machine as well! Aarrgh- sometimes I wonder about me!!!!!!
It all works beautifully now- excuse me while I go and stand in the corner for a while with my dunce's hat on... Thanks Simon for what is a great piece of software- and with the addition of manycasting on the server, it will be near perfect. Cheers, Ken vk7krj@... www.vk7krj.com 'It seems hard to sneak a look at God's cards. But that He plays dice and uses "telepathic" methods .... is something that I cannot believe for a single moment.' Yes, I will start this when I return from my holidays.
Also the whole radio / SDR will be controllable via the remote server.

Options Pane
Simon HB9DRV <simon@...>
Hi All,
(I bet this gets wrapped)
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/sdr-radio-com/photos/album/1352727940/pic/1913848817/view?picmode=original&mode=tn&order=ordinal&start=1&dir=asc
In the Photos section I have created an album http://groups.yahoo.com/group/sdr-radio-com/photos/album/1352727940/pic/list where you see a screenshot with a new Options pane. I find the toolbars to be hard on my eyes, yesterday I started an Options pane which I'll finish this evening. The whole thing will be fully configurable, you can use toolbars and / or the Options pane and also select what's shown in the toolbars.
Configuration of the UI is very important and part of the whole SDR 'expereince'.

Re: Softrock Support
Hi,

I really DO like the SDR-Radio kits - I have been running a USRP 1 and a GNU Radio interface driving LINRAD for some time and have also played with a web version based upon the WEBSDR. I am aiming to build a set of remote VHF beacon receivers based upon modified Softrocks. The first thing that I have done is to run up the Remote server(currently on a dual core 3.1GHz XP SP3 machine)with a Softrock v9 on 40m. I can run a console on the same PC or another PC on the local LAN and now, after a couple of firewall changes, from the Internet. I can log-in and operate over the Internet; but on the SDR-Radio remote server list I get the icon for having a firewall issue. Do this down to the way that I am running the server in a DMZ and using NAT? The main problems I have revolve around the interfacing of the remote server and the E-Mu 0202 USB soundcard. I have used the 0202 as it is probably the best performer for modest money and possibly the 2nd or 3rd most popular with the sound-card based SDR community. I have run the remote server up with a Delta 44 and there were no issues at 96KHz sampling although at lower rates I sense, from the familiar bangs and pops it is suffering from wrong buffer length/latency issues on the input audio streams. On the E-Mu 0202 I have now established that although the presence of the card is detected by the sdr-radio software the interface to change the sample rate doesn't work. This is a particular problem as the 0202 defaults to 44.1Khz sampling when it starts without a sample rate being selected by a software application. Therefore attempting to change the sample rate on the remote server with the console causes a console conflict and the software to hang... Otherwise, even when sitting on the same LAN with a high performance 2.6GHz dual core PC console I am noticing a several second delay between the Waterfall display and the sound output. Often around 4 seconds it makes tuning around rather difficult. I understand why there is a significant delay in deconding the sound but could the effects not be mitigated by introducing a variable delay in the spectrum display. Great start but a few bugs to go 73 John G4SWX --- In sdr-radio-com@..., "Dominic" <dombaines@...> wrote:

Re: Softrock Support
Simon HB9DRV <simon@...>
Hi,
This sound delay is most annoying - it can be up to ten seconds here. I'll attack it soon but have higher-priority issues at the moment. I honestly have no idea where the sound is being buffered!
I don't set the sample rate of the soundcard, rather tell Windows what rate to return data. I assume that 44.1kHz is the native (i.e. hardware) sample arte and that this can be set to various values such as 48kHz or 96kHz.
I would like to resolve this issue with you via SKYPE so that I can use your server and see things hang and...
I'm hb9drv and sdr-radio-com on SKYPE.

Softrock V6.2 and V9.0 unmade kits available
Dom Baines M1KTA
I find I have two Softrock V9.0 RX kits with electronic switched band pass filters surplus as built two for someone else who provided their own kits in the end and not planning on building another soon. They were obtained from Tony only just last month and should have V15.12 AVR I can check and if needs be update them.
They were from Tony KB9YIG without CMOS Si570 but pretty sure I have a couple spare from last buy from Tom. I also have a range of un made V6.2 RX Lite kits (old style not version II) these are fixed frequency RX for bands 160m to 10m. See http://www.wb5rvz.com/sdr/New_SR_Lite/index.htm for details of what these look like. You can use these with a DDS or other crystals for LF/VLF or VHF use, I use one as a 500KHz SDR RX using a 4MHz xtal. Initially, to UK only please ... anyone interested as I know they work with Simon's new software? Will sell any of these at cost which is what they cost me from Tony and the Si570 from Tom if needed add whatever postage is from me. 72 Dom M1KTA |

Sorry I am at work at the moment :-( My remote server is at home and not on-line - I will put it on around 18.00UTC this evening for the weekend. On the soundacrd rate it is highly probable that the E-Mu drivers do not transfer the rate control from Windows. I will try to take a look. At the moment I have just used the E-Mu command utility to set the sample rate, 96, 192KHz etc and mirror this when I drive the console. After a bit of playing I had it running at 192KHz last night on 40m - Laptop connected by WiFi to neighbours AP - via their ISP - Internet - my ISP - router/firewall - remote server. Very good definition on the waterfall and pretty good audio (but the delay). The delay will be a long term problem - however in the short term it would be good to be able to delay the spectrum display within the console to match the audio. I can't run SKYPE in this corporate environment - so it will have to be evenings or weekends Cheers John G4SWX --- In sdr-radio-com@..., "Simon HB9DRV" <simon@...> wrote:

Editing the broadcast database ?
Andy obrien <k3ukandy@...>
I tried editing the broadcast band database , added a few long wave stations. However they do not show up when I boot the program, only frequencies above 3 mHz show up. Is there a secret to editing this file ? Andy K3UK |

Actually, it is NOT below 3Mhz that is the issue. I just tried to add Radio Marti to the database at 5980 but it is not showing up either. I simply added the line of text and pressed "save" . Odd.

Support for Soft66 Receivers
Ron M
I might as well throw my hat in the ring early and campaign for SDR-radio console support of the inexpensive Soft66XXX line of receivers. That would provide for a low priced entry point for those wishing to experiment with SDR and don't have alot of money to spend. There currently is no console that properly supports the board.

Wish I was in the UK as have been trying to find an assembled SoftRock v9.0 Lite+USB Xtall Receiver with Si570 and Electronically Switched BPF for some time now. Maybe I'll get lucky and find one in the US one of these days. Jim Jim's iPhone 3GS On Apr 23, 2010, at 3:50 AM, "Dominic" <dombaines@...> wrote:

Audio from each VFO?

Can we listen to audio from each VFO at the SAME time? I have not found a way to do this. In SpectraVue you can feed audio from 2 VFOs to the left/right audio channels.
