Re: Console Signal meter reading

Allan Isaacs

Hi Michael

There may be a problem here?

It depends on how the output from your signal generator is measured. Some will regulate the input into the generators attenuator to say 0dBm then rely on the attenuator to define the output at its socket.

If you connect a high impedance load to the signal generator its output will equate to the level indicated by the attenuator setting but, if a 50 ohm load is connected directly, this reading at the output socket will not be valid.

My Marconi TF2008 is marked to show this anomaly.

You could test this hypothesis with a high impedance scope?

Subject: [SDR-Radio] Console Signal meter reading

Hi folks,
I performed a simple test with my RSP2 receiver and my Marconi 2022D RF generator:
The RF signal was fed to SMA antenna port A via a short 50 ohms coax cable.
The Console settings were as follow:
-RF gain = 0
-AGC On
-Visual gain = 0
-Mode = CW
-Bandwidth = 200 Hz
I noticed a difference of 20 dB between the generator output level and the signal meter reading; this difference is almost constant from1 to 50 MHz, for signal levels between -100 dBm and -50 dBm. The difference is smaller at -40 dBm level (only 10 dB). The Console signal meter reading is above the generator output level.
My question:
Should I use the "Visual gain" setting to compensate for that diffrence?

Michel,
First, I suggest you turn AGC OFF to get anywhere near an accurate reading.

First, open SDRC all the way so we can see all the data provided, it's not full screen by looking at the box in upper right.
There's a whole lot of data along the bottom that's missing. Best to use the screen shot button w/in SDRC, not the Print Screen of Windows.
OTW reboot, delete definition of the SDRPlay and rebuild a new definition.

Are you sure the proper drivers installed for the RSPduo?

Re: Cant get Console to run

Attached is my log file for the RSPduo. Two things I see that may be an issue. I have API ver 3.08, you are using 3.09 and it shows the local version is 3.06. I think Simon has said 3.09 will work but that may be a fix in one of the beta releases. I am running build 2470, you might try updating.

The other thing I see is that your process is an Atom. I know it is supported but not sure if has any affect on what you are seeing.

So you might try changing the API ver to 3.08 and  upgrade Console to latest beta. Note I find that whenever updating the SDRplay software it is best to unplug receiver, remove old software (Uno and all drivers) then install new software and only plug the receiver in when directed by the installation.

Hi I cant get console to run even though its loading ok. I also use sdruno which seems fine. Console is seeing the sdrplay as a definition but wont run it. Any help greatly appreciated thanks..

Waterfall panel height (SDR Console 3.1)

Hi all
I've installed SDR Console on a new PC and I don't remember anymore how can I adjust the height of the waterfall panel.
I would like to have on the screen, top to bottom: spectrum, waterfall, frequency database.
Anybody can help me? Thank you in advance!

Factoid - color subcarrier was 5 MHz / 88 * 63, exactly. This was suggested as a means of delivering precise time and frequency via TV signals before the GPS era.

Some of the newer switching voltage regulators with internal free running clocks run (+/- a few khz) at 260 khz, 380 khz. Very obvious to an AM BC portable receiver.

Fortunately, Panasonic plasma TV's are finally beginning to die (hardening of the electrolytic capacitors) and there are few OEM spare parts due to the shortage of "unobtanium"..

Re: Signal history logging interval

Siegfried Jackstien

and if the user changes to dbuv  ... could also the scale in signal history change to dbuV ??

in main spectrum you change the scale ... could you do the same in signal history??

much easier if you have 0 dbuV at the base and positive numbers (in this example the cw beacon with around 36 dbuv / 36 db over noise)

..........................

in second screenshot the first half of signal history shows the RX2 (mid beacon) while second half shows cw beacon. How nice would if be if we would have a signal history "for each receiver" for logging several stations at once ?!? (see last picture where i edited it somewhat)

i am sure "Nils" (and others) would love that for logging levels of some shortwave stations over the day ;-)

Would it be possible to select a "receiver selection" to signal history or log the levels for each receiver (not just the active one) in a table??

Say you have the receiver passband of qo100 and set rx1 to the cw beacon (and let it there). Now "fix" the signal history to rx1 and do your normal qso work with rx 2 (and tx synced to rx2). After a day (or just a few hours) you save the signal history and see how the beacon level does change over the day.

For now signal history is only the (one) active receiver (that one that is also synced to tx). Would be nice if sdrc could save the signal levels for each receiver, if more then just one used. Shortwave listeners or ndb hunters could use a handfull of receivers and log the levels of the beacons/ shortwave stations over the day to see conditions changing.

So my idea is ... could you export the levels for each receiver in a table?? There is no need to have the signal history "view" 25 times but maybe just the levels exported in a user selectable time interval?!? That would be nice especially for beacon or station logging with a handful of receivers running in parallel.

(as usual just an idea from a dumb nut and happy sdrc user ... grin)

ps imagine you have your excel diagrams with a few signals (in parallel) with different colour for each one and showing a different station/frequency/receiver

It’s the same value as shown for the active RX signal level.

No filtering. Just the peak signal level within the passband for the current RX.

Subject: Re: [SDR-Radio] Signal history logging interval

Hello Simon,

I have another question about the ‘Signal History’ feature.  When one logs the signal history values, both the signal level and noise floor, what exactly is being stored?  Are the values representative of some analog voltages extracted from the receiver baseband before IF processing, or are they something obtained from the IF passband?   Do the mode and/or filter settings have any influence on the values logged by the signal history feature?  How is the noise floor calculated – is it some type of average of values on either side of the main signal of interest?

Thanks in advance for any light you can shed on the question.

Ken
