Hi Curt. Thanks for taking the time to fill in the blanks. It sure does not get to be a more simple installation than what you have described. It is interesting what differences exist between your setup/situation and others who swear at their probe antennas? You have peaked my curiosity to the point where I will just have to give one a try. I have several downstairs.....time to get a couple installed outside. Thanks again.

Sanitize your machine now. Scrub it clean and reinstall. If you have not been getting downloads from www.sdr-radio.com you are VERY likely to be infected and have defective or obsolete software as well.

I think "attack" implies some proactive act to compromise one's PC whereas the ads are passive i.e. they are harmless. Yes, annoying maybe, but sadly a necessary evil, like the 4 minutes of ads I am forced to watch every time I go onto streaming TV services like (here in the UK) Channel 4 or Channel 5. Tedious, but the service is free so I put up with it. I can't even "click past" those...... forced to wait (with the sound off!).

I'm far more lenient where anything to do with software that's given free to the user despite thousands and thousands of hours of hard work by the developer (Simon). Hopefully if we like and enjoy it we feel happy to make a donation to the Millie and Beer Fund, or even a few donations. See the top of the Download page!

   For a realistic display of **DC Offset, connect to one of my servers that has an SDR-iq… KA1GJU Super Stations #1,2,4 and KA1GJU @ PCARC if you know how to load a server into your definitions.
   Select the max bandwidth, 192 kHz and start it. Takes about 8 seconds, but once started tune to a quiet band where no signals are present and look at the signal in the center. Now re-center display with a right click on either side at a good distance from it and watch what happens. It’s always centered! SDRC will reduce it over time, but it remains. Disconnect from the radio and connect again at the minimum bandwidth choice and repeat. SDRC will do a good job of completely removing it. 

   If I operate the SDR-iq locally, it’s not as pronounced and SDRC removes it completely over time. Not all SDR’s behave this way, but this anomaly is only when I operate via my servers (99% of time), not when using the SDR-iq locally. I have brought this to Simon’s attention over a year ago, but I just live with it and listen to signals on either side on center just fine.

** The DC offset is the difference between the ADC's "middle" voltage and the average voltage present at the ADC's input. The analog circuitry in the SDR will contain biasing circuitry designed to minimize the DC offset.

Just to jump in here on this dogpile...

I have a Wellbrook ALA-330S and the original PA0RDT Mini-Whip from Roelof.

Both perform very well in varying conditions and if I had to do it over again and had limited funds, I would get the Mini-Whip.  I was VERY surprised at how well it works.

I can tell you from exact personal experience that it is a good antenna.

Interesting Alan. It is just personal preference and in the case of my RSPdx and Console once I hit the center button I do not notice any difference in the detected signals characteristics. Given that if I had a choice I would like to see all my tuned signals in the center.

excellent thank you. tests run against other antennas can be most useful & revealing when properly documented & performed. The key is to document exactly what each system was and how it was installed, where, grounded, times of day, freq's, and at least a dozen other factors.

I think "attacked" is a strong word. Just close down one ad usually, sometimes not even that. Could at worst be described as a minor irritation (IMHO of course).

Not aware of this as an option in SDRC. It seems mouse wheel can be reversed by editing the registry:

What about using a midi controller with SDRC or simply a midi tuning knob? Many on here have done this. Sorry, I don't have the time to search right now but there are many threads on it. Then you can map exactly what you want. I think this might be better for you?

Or use the keyboard arrow keys. This is my preferred method. Just in case you did not know, up/down cursor keys give coarse tuning, left/right is fine tuning, all steps setable for each mode. You need cursor over the spectrum/waterfall display to use this option, or hold down "shift" to activate it if the cursor is not in the display area.
