yepp .. plugging in the mic has to be done BEFORE starting console

a later plugged in device is not found in the drop down luist .. so can not be selected

yes your idea is not bad ... a pop up window that says no input device selected or so

Thanks Sigi, that is a simple fix, but I would never have found it had Simon not suggested using microphone SSB as a test.  Could I respectfully suggest some error message might be presented if TUNE or TONE is tried without a microphone available to the PC?

It definitely is
 No mic= no output
Simon uses the sampling clock as a master clock to send the data to the sdr

I can confirm unplugging the USB headset after I am able to successfully modulate and see modulation in the spectrum monitor (which if I am 100% honest I didn’t know was even there...) results in TUNE and TONE buttons no longer modulating. Plugging the headset back in fails to get them working again, but restarting SDR Console with the headset still plugged in gets them going again. Expected behavior and hopefully my "fix"?  Thanks again.

Re: More Signal History

myosotis123@...

I also think that the Signal History feature is very good.  Small amounts of the data can be exported to Excel or there is a 19 page tutorial by Nils DK8OK on using QtiPlot and three other programs:  https://dk8ok.files.wordpress.com/2017/06/sdr_com_marker.pdf

Sadly, printing Signal History directly uses a lot of ink, even if you reverse the colours, so I have now bought and overhauled an EMI/Field Intensity receiver which has a signal strength output voltage that can be logged on a computer and then printed out with a coloured trace on a white background.

Is it my imagination or is printer ink more expensive than Brandy?

Stay safe and best wishes,

Geoffrey.

Scott, the question is, is it possible to register this band in 5M directly to the media, bypassing third-party devices? Again, what will be the format of the data and how can it be reproduced without multiplying the entity? Every sandpiper manufacturer strives to reinvent the wheel in these sophisticated IQ data formats.
In turn, I am "for" Simon's proposal to support the device in SDRC and thank him for mentioning this product.

I think 5 MHz bandwidth is pretty much unprecedented for a standalone consumer level device, I could be mistaken. Perfect for me for searching the land mobile radio VHF, UHF, 800 MHz bands for unknown signals while portable. It is "pretty". Hopefully its performance will be at least decent. It's likely going to take a while to receive it, as was the case with my authentic Russian Malahit portable SDR, but I will report back when it's in my hands.

I'm afraid I'm getting close to having a box of them at this point myself!

Re: Waterfall Speed

Gedas

I was waiting to see if someone else was going to mention this but for very weak signal work, like when I am trying to find then make 10 GHz CW contacts I have my waterfall set to a very low speed and enable averaging. This allows me to detect a flea-fart of a signal that might otherwise be missed if a faster rate is used. We will ALWAYS see a signal long before we can hear anything and we use the waterfall to peak the signals up.

Before we make contact it is customary for each station to send dashes over and over and over again which lets me turn my dish in 1 degree increments until I have him peaked up. Then I will dash to him so he may do the same. If we are more than 3-4 degrees off the required bearing no signals will be seen.

In any event just wanted to share with you my philosophy for very weak signal detection and the way I have it set up. Here is a video I made (excuse the poor quality) but it shows a very strong rain-scatter signal on the waterfall. Now imagine that signal x100 times weaker and just the slightest traces visible on the waterfall......those are typical and what I hunt for to make a QSO. I will try to make a video of a weak signal case.

Nice specifications except for bandwidth. I need at least 10 to 15 MHz b/w for my work. Also unsure of any hardware support after purchase. As for the number of SDR’s I have a large box full of 80% of the SDR’s brands supported by SDRc. Still looking for that perfect SDR for radio astronomy work. The HaMSci/TAPR Tangerine SDR may be it but it’s still in the far future.

Hi Simon,

I have multiple SDR RX and do not plan to buy such a device.

The frequency range is nice but the bandwidth of 5MHz is too low for many applications in the GHz range such as weather satellite reception, DATV etc

I am rather look for a solution of a SDR-TRX with a wide frequency range and high bandwidth which also provides a network interface in addition to USB3.

Kind regards
