I’m too scared to ask the price! I know we ask for “bomb-proof” front ends but I’d settle for space-proof! You can almost feel Sigi checking his bank balance 😊

Re: SDR Console 3.1
Siegfried Jackstien
i checked with sync disabled .. .and still see that slight wobble in frequency (plus some very slow up or downwards drift depending on sun or clouds) ... on the beacon steady tone and on my received tone (that i txed in parallel) ... so it is my lnb that has the slight wobble ... but isnt the drift correction exactly against those frequency changes on the rx end ... if you have just a normal unmodded lnb with an xtal inside or a tcxo modded lnb (console does not know from where a frequency fault comes) ... maybe simon has wrong loop gain (or damping factor) in his
regulation of the compensation of drift ... is it a pi (or pid)
loop?? ... is there a gain factor (maybe hidden in registry??)
that a user may change?? (only for specialists but maybe there is
such a factor??!!) if i see the around 4 hz wobble with or without beacon lock
enabled ... that tells me that there IS somethig wrong in the
correction ... that wobble can have different reasons .. be it the
osc in the sat wobbling ... be it the lnb wobbling could not be the beacon itself cause it is exact same wobble when i receive my own tx signal ... they "drift" in parallel so to speak ... it is one of the two osc .. the local osc in the sat ... or the pll loop in the lnb (i am sure its not the sat ... but who knows) ... should not the drift correction in console take care of also those slight changes in frequency?!? (another reason for simon to use his new feed i built for him ... there is also a tcxo modded lnb involved) .. the slight wobble should not be there in my view ... AFTER the correction it should be a straight line ... not ?!? is the correction "a few samples late" ... and causing an overshoot in both directions?? .. is the amplification (gain) set to low?? ... is there an "i" part in the loop (integration of fault over time)??? ... so many questions (i do know what a pi or pid regulator is ... in the industry it was may daytime job to set those factors) simon sure can calculate the frequency offsets to tenth of a hz
... (only round hz values shown in the beacon window) so i hope
that he also can compensate more precise greetz sigi dg9bfc Am 03.08.2021 um 20:53 schrieb Jean

Sigi, in my view the beacon locking should compensate this instability With an decent OCXO based reference, the short time jitter is around 1Hz with beacon sync enabled and <1Hz with beacon sync disabled. Knowing the Allan deviation of my reference, my guess is that a noticeable part of the 1Hz is due to the transponder and/or RF path. |

Bob,
2 grams, all you need is built into the deck. Will be here today…
I have lovely speakers, good down to 18 Hz and was listening to Abbey Road on CD yesterday.

Hi, Simon. I have the exact same record player. It's quite good, at least to my ears. Although watching the strobe to see if it's spinning at the correct speed can be a bit hypnotic! You might want to consider getting a record stylus gauge to ensure the correct amount of downward force on your records. It's not expensive. If memory serves, it's supposed to be around 5 grams. But look that up. I'm not sure. Bob, W4RLS -- - + - + -

Re: SDR Console 3.1
A key advantage that today's record players have over any of the old ones is that they've solved the ground loop hum. I had a Dual deck from the 1960s. I spent months fiddling with it, yet the hum would at times be overbearing. One day I just threw the thing away and got the same record player Simon just purchased. I love my vintage radios, tape players, and such. But I have zero nostalgia for old record players. Bob, W4RLS |

Mark Cayton
When I was stationed in Germany (U.S Army '74) I picked up on a Thorens TD-160 and a Decca Mark V London Export cartridge. I ran that thru a Crown IC-150 preamp into a Bose 1801 amp driving some 901 Series II speakers in the barracks. The lights would dim on the transient music peaks.
Sold it all when I rotated out, didn't realize what I had 'til it was gone. Mark |

All I have run across on YouTube about the new
turntables available today is that they are pure Chineseum crap
compared to a 50s or 60s Girard or Miracord.

Sigi,
I guess you are mainly seeing the short time (in)stability of your TXCO and not the (in)stability of the beacon sync loop, double-check with beacon sync disabled. With an decent OCXO based reference, the short time jitter is around 1Hz with beacon sync enabled and <1Hz with beacon sync disabled. you choose your screen resolution in Hamclock at compile time. well, *before* you compile it, that is.

a hint ... while you are txing ... pull volume slider up (to hear the downlink for finetune) after next ptt release and prtess again it is back to 0 (or where you have set it) some users do not mute completely but to maybe 20 or 30 % strength (that you slight can hear it but that it does not come back in mic audio) i also do not set it to 0 (i have around 20%) ... so i can just barely hear myself ... but its enough to hear an offset in the tone height .... another thing you could do is use tx monitor (set to 30% or whatever you prefer) and while sending a tune tone (500hz) you can hear BOTH tones (tx monitor and rx audio) ... then you can beatnote these two tones to be very precise (when you hear a slow "wah wah wah" you are spot on) hope that helps you a bit ... repeat .. .there is no need to add a "deactivate rx mute" button in tx box ... just pull up the volume slider in receive pane/box while txing to hear your own transmission and on next over it will be back down to 0 greetz sigi dg9bfc

jumped back to version 3.27 ... the same wobble (around 4 hz or so) ... so ok its my lnb wobbling a bit (and console does not calculate/regulate that out ... simon ... how accurate and precise do you make the calculation and finetune of the beacon?!? (and how fast or how slow)?? that slight wobble of maybe 4hz ... could you be more precise
?!?!? ... you will not hear that in normal voice operation ... but
for some digimodes that 4 hz is not good ... so maybe you can do
the finetune of the beacon lock a bit more "tight" ?? greetz sigi dg9bfc

i still see a slight wobble (around 4 hz?!?) see screenshot (left is cw beacon and right is my own tx signal (steady tone offset around 100hz from the beacon) ... yes i did use VERY low power (not to disturb the cw beacon that much) ... just a short test to show the wobble i still see (and slightly hear) for best view zoom up to maximum ,,, set resolution to x8 and use 10 ines /second ... then wait for the steady tone ... should be a straight line ... not?!? if i remember right we had a better locking ... no idea what you changed ... but i do remember that i hve seen a better correction (a near perfect line) ... i will test that in the night when there is less drift from the lnb ... if then the lines are better ... ok then it is just the drift and wobble of the lnb ... but i guess you had it better before (more straight) greetz dg9bfc sigi Am 03.08.2021 um 17:11 schrieb Jean
