Hi,

LimeRFE problems will be attacked this week.

Subject: [SDR-Radio] LimeRFE at HAM band with build 3.0.28

LimeRFE , the RF frontend for  LimeSDR and LimeSDR mini has started shipping.
Has anybody tested it with SDR Console 3.0.28 at ham Bands.
My impressions:
At a first quick test, it seems that in Tx/Rx mode it works reliably only at BW=1.5 (Tx) , at higher bandwidth it seems to freeze when Tx is enabled.
Also, selecting Tx (or Tune) on the  Tx panel enables Tx only at the SDR and not at the LimeRFE which needs to be enabled/disabled  at its own panel.
I get 4-5 W power output at 20M, although I am not 100% sure on the power meter calibration.

SDRPlay I saw were claiming their Duo to be within 1dB for power measurement. Don't know if you have one of those lying around? Also don't know what accuracy you need / desire.

Re: Auto-Contrast Function Question

try also the high and low slider n spectrum ... with all 3 sliders combined (plus visual gain) you can get a SUPERB 3d view :-)

the speed of the waterfall also influences the contrast and sensitivity of the waterfall view ... i prefer a lower speed (mostly use 5 lines / sec only!!

cause otherwise a signal runs to fast out of the view

what i would like to see would be .. in IF SPECTRUM (receive tab) tha the speed would be fixed to 20 line/second (best seting to read waterfall text) and that the main waterfall can be left to slower speed (what about a "fixed factor"?!? say 1:3 or 1:4 ???

an independant speed setting for if window would be nice to have i think :-)

when i "hear" somebody sending text i now have to go into view/speed and set it up to 15 or 20 lines (to read the text in if)

a speed button DIRECT close to the if window would be good (just nneded to set to 20 for wf text)

I've never found the "Auto" option to be all that helpful. Instead, I'll adjust the upper and lower limits to my satisfaction, and then simply move the slider up or down depending on the band. BTW, the slider can be easily moved by hovering the cursor and using the mouse scroll wheel in either direction. What would be helpful, however, is if the waterfall contrast could be set per receiver as is the filter, AGC, and noise reduction settings, etc.

Thanks. That's almost exactly what I do. I just click AUTO after I tune, and it takes care of it.

I suggest you use "Favourites" to define your most commonly used bands. Within those, you can set spectrumn, waterfall contrasts for each band by checking the boces when you come to save the favourite.

When you recall the favourite, the waterfall contrast will be reset to your own settings for that band.

Nothing automatic, but...

Take your mouse and drag the ‘Color Bar’ on the far right side of waterfall display up to darken, or drag it down to brighten (increase sensitivity).

This is quite common when going from low bands i.e 75m to 17m, until you increase gain(s), turn on the pre amp, and/or adjust the color slider.

Mag loop Simon

Hi

It should be.just remember the elad uses 3 pc ports for full control ( rx tx and cat.)
ALSO IMPORTANT..use the RX antenna on the elad..DISABLE tx on elad!
This is to stop an “ opps” txed into my ic7300 rx port!

I use an elad duo with my yaesu ftdx3000 this way..

I run my 7610 that way. I have a DX Engineering RTR2 to handle the antenna switching and muting receiver when transmitting.

Hello Group;
After using Console with SDR Play and my IC-7300. I am think of getting an Elad FDM Duo. For now I would like to use it on RX only. My IC-7300 would be for TX and driving my KPA500. All are working great with HRD and JTDX running through HRD.
Is is what I want possible?

I use SDR Play over ethernet,  but I have a PC running the SDR Radio server at the radio.  I've never tried it using a raspberry pi

Good luck

Would  SDR Console's Data Analyser do what you're suggesting?

Carrier Sleuth ( https://www.blackcatsystems.com/software/medium_wave_carrier_display_app.html )  can also display carrier shifts and smearing due to propagation changes.

That brings to mind a possibly interesting feature for people into observing changes in propagation would be a means of creating VERY slow waterfall images, once a second, once in 10 seconds, once a minute, once in ten minutes, etc, probably in a traditional 1,2,5,10 sequence. Then you watch the pips move and change with time. With a fine enough spectrum plot you can possibly actually see the frequency changes as the ionosphere moves up and down and the D layer comes in and out. It could be used for education. {^_^}

the signal amplitude change over time is interesting .. but so, too, are the small changes in signal frequency caused by the acceleration and deceleration where the signal refraction takes place. 'good' measurements can be had starting with chip-sized TCXO references of the kind now cheap and prevalent. a GPSDO is quite sufficient for 'better' than 'good'.
