Simon: that's the absolutely best reason! It's your program, and it's cool.

What you need to do next is add the 4th dimension, time. Figure out a way to use SDR Console to receive signals from the 1970s or 1980s so we all can receive (and record!) all of the great shortwave transmissions from back then. Oh, it'd be cool to have MP3 recordings of Radio Netherlands Happy Station or Joe Adamov from Radio Moscow talking for 20 minutes about Soviet tractor production.

Thanks for all the cool stuff in SDR Console.

Conrad,

I really don't care - so far 0 stations on SSB today while beaming up the channel, plenty on FT8. I look at the local Q5 signal on FT8 with ~100dB SNR and it's fine.

Were we all to follow your logic there would be no-one on 2m.

I'm not spending more money on VHF/UHF...

I am quite keen on good transmitters, as I am regularly assaulted by bad ones, I also prefer to be a good neighbour, this is still a work in progress here.

Re: 116 dB SNR off the back of the 2m beam!

Conrad, PA5Y

There is no argument. The Q5 LO is poor, Q5 even publish the figures for this LO, which are not good at all.If you or other readers are interested the digiLO PN on 116MHz is -112dBc/Hz at 1kHz,, -115dBc/Hz at 10kHz and only -120dBc/Hz at 100kHz. Awful especially at 100kHz.

Something is wrong with the metering, I do not accept that your equipment can cope with -120dBm (in your RX BW as indicated) plus 116.1dB. That is -3.9dBm at the input of your transverter, there is something decidedly fishy about this. The Q5 collapses below this level as do other better transverters. The TQP3M9037 front end can cope but the 2nd stage PHA-1 cannot, not after the gain of the TQP3M9037 - even allowing for 4dB loss in the first 144MHz BPF. So the metering cannot be correct. Why is your noise floor in an SSB BW -120dBm? Is that elevated noise floor raised by your neighbour 19dB? Maybe your are seeing that PN I was talking about? If your neighbour is raising your noise floor by that much and you insist that it is nothing to do with the Q5 transverter then you should have a word with him. If your noise floor is -139dBm normally plus 116.1dB then that is plausible but this was not explained.

The beacon level may not change but the beacon SNR must change with a -3.9dBm input. Your noise floor should be around -139dBm or so with that transverter? The tranvserter gain is not compensated perhaps?

No PN from your neighbours Q5 transverter a few miles is factually impossible.

I am quite keen on good transmitters, as I am regularly assaulted by bad ones, I also prefer to be a good neighbour, this is still a work in progress here.

Simon,

Thanks for your views.

I prefer LAN where possible, and I have three sources all requiring a 100 Mbps link (and preferring a 1 Gbps circuit). This is UDP data, so miss it and it's gone. No retransmissions.

I've wondered how busy both the 2.4 GHz and 4 GHz WLANs are here - close to saturation or not - with all the devices. Competing for bandwidth are likely approaching 20 Raspberry Pi cards and half a dozen PCs, tablet, phone etc. As yet I've not found software which will give me a picture of how busy, and from which devices. Being near an airport much of the 5 GHz Wi-Fi is prohibited for use.

Why not instead a memory scan (with increased number of memories) or frequency scan capability?
A SWSkeds database import with SWSked  label in the Source field , not custom.
Custom I want to reserve to my own records.
Just to name a few features...

I find the 3D superb because I learnt about Direct3D programming, and education is an important part of ham radio.

Also you don’t know if it’ll be useless until it’s written, so a ‘chicken and egg’ situation.

The good thing – I now have 3D in my coding armoury for the future.
