Subject: [SDR-Radio] SDR-console 3.0.26 & 3.0.27 : cracks in audio

Hi,

Excuse me if this topic has already been covered.

I have an issue on 2 different W10 computers :
- SDRC 3.0.27 with RTL dongle around 100MHz WFM, any bandwith
- SDRC 3.0.26 & 3.0.27 with FCD pro dongle, 143MHz, USB, 192kHz bandwith :

I have cracks in the audio, see attached. Note that on the FCD, reducing the sampling to the minimum solves the problem, doing a bandwith reduction on the RTL dongle did not change anything.

- Regression to 3.0.24 solved the issue.

I too have this exact problem, however I am running a SDR Play RSPdx. Mine is much worse when using cw with a 150/250Hz BW. I have tried all the suggested audio settings on Simon's help section but to no avail. If I use SDRUno I have no problems, but so much prefer SDRC. Like you it never seemed to be a problem with 3.0.24, but I don't want to revert. If anyone does have an answer this would be great,

Try 2.4 Msps. Or something like 2.0 Msps. The dongle might be problematic up around the top sample rate they can deliver withuot dropped packets, 2.4 Msps. I've not seen a dongle yet fail at 2.4 Msps. I've seen it drop packets at even 2.5 Msps. 2.25 Msps may drop into a sample rate hole that causes frequent dropouts.

What are you doing when you think  you are reducing the dongle's bandwidth. I suspect you are confusing yourself about what you are doing.

(Listens to audio) Yes, you are using a sample rate your dongle cannot deliver through your USB connections. It may be other loads on the USB bus. It may be a sample rate that the dongle cannot properly process. It "should" handle 2.4 Msps. I've not seen 2.048 Msps fail. Use the highest rate that works for you.

Subject: Re: [SDR-Radio] 3.1 LTS

Hello Simon!  Has 3.1 LTS been released?  I have checked and v3.0.27 seems to be the latest released version.

Thank you for great software!

Hey all, I'm looking for someone who would be able to build a customized SDR transceiver with very unique specifications. If you're competent in electronics please email me and we can talk about the specs. Thanks!

Re: SDR Console to PlutoSDR, no TX on one PC, fine on another??

Network ports on PCs are not interchangeable in general. In some situations it matters but you don't notice it because the difference is hidden behind your router's DHCP server. Other times it seriously matters such as speaking to a Pluto directly from the PC. Get the Ethernet port wrong on the PC compared to working configurations will almost always cause you headaches. Ethernet is NOT USB and USB is not Ethernet. They are not subsets of each other in terms of their base functionality.

Ethernet speaks peer to peer. USB speaks only when the root hub speaks to the specific USB device. So USB polls for data. Ethernet simply processes data that comes in. That difference can cause problems such as what caught you.

Hello Joanne, (got it right this time) ;)

It turns out NOT to be anything to do with SDR Console at all, at least as far as I can tell Joanne.

I THINK I have fixed it. A very odd problem. I tried swapping the ethernet cable to a second port on the main satellite PC and suddenly I could transmit again. Why I have no idea. And why it even has two ethernet ports I do not know, either, one is just marked Ethernet, the other IBM Ethernet. I seem to recall having to load two different drivers for ethernet on this IBM motherboard, too.

The Pluto, pre amp and PA are back outside in a box under the dish, so I can't say if basic USB connection for TX is also working again. I don't want to mess with it :)

I then swapped the ethernet cable back to he original port on the main PC, and it also worked again there. Maybe the connector plug contacts were tarnished, who knows?

I would like to know what was going on, as I am concerned it will occur again, but for now all seems OK and I have had two nice contacts on SSB with excellent reports. Bloody computers!!

Thanks for the reply and take care.
