Simon's World Map • Graphic By mbott

My request for Simon's World Map would be a graphic selection like the one used in Solar System Scope.

Hmmm. I'm pretty sure that she-who-must-be-obeyed would take a pretty dim view of that. *looks furtively over shoulder*

Thanks Simon. Two possible culprits (excluding missus!) so maybe time to clear out the cache
and keep an eye open for future surprise ads
Sorry, clearing the cache will not help - some sites like CNN offer up dating ads, as soon as you or 'er indoors clicks on one ad you're being stalked for ever!

I'll just have to do it the long winded way then, and tweak the ad options whenever they appear. Might take a year or two.

Anyway, about your builders ... 8-)
It's when you're directed to 'Stud-Muffins from Glasgow' that you should be worried .

David,

The RSS feed works superbly in Outlook.

Thanks, Simon. As it happens, I don't use Outlook. I do get RSS, but again that's something I have to go into as a deliberate action, so it's only visited once a day, if that. E-mail is always open, though.

Good luck with the new arrangement.

Forums make it SO MUCH HARDER and more COMPLEX for regular users who have functional email and skills to use it. They turn the focus to the programmer (in this case a damn good one) and essentially blow off the user
(customer) with more to do than live on a keyboard. To me this is a disappointing change in the course of the best software support I have experienced. The next step seems destined to be “all support will be on the forum”, which is why I no longer use several good programs, one previously owned by Simon.

======================================

Have to agree, Larry. I like e-mail, and I'm not going to turn on my browser several times a day just to see whether anything of interest has happened. With e-mail, I have a Delete button if something doesn't interest me. With my own software I've never found a need for forums.

Having said all that, it does seem that Simon is making an effort to provide e-mail integration, which will be most welcome. Perhaps if discipline is better enforced on the forums that it is here on this mailing list, it may be easier to find topics of interest?

Re: Change of course on user support

Larry,

The reason for the forums is so I can provide support and also have a knowledge base. Despite my pleas I get many direct e-mails asking questions which have already been answered in this mailing list, this chews up my time.

There’s quite a high noise level here – interesting noise but it means I lose posts, don’t always see requests.

So this list *will* continue, but the forums will be the first goto-site. I’m trying to get a close integration between the two. You can click one link in the forums and see all new posts etc.

Click on Subscription, and click on Special Notices Only ( No Email is not an option with this group). I have yet to get a single 'Special Notice' email from this group that I can recall.
Like you, I just go to the groups.io site and read those that interest me or can offer assistance to.

Re: Support for R-666 Dragonfly SDR - Update

Bob,
the datasheet for the LTC2208 ADC (https://www.analog.com/media/en/technical-documentation/data-sheets/2208fc.pdf) says it has a 700MHz full power bandwidth, so it should be able to undersample at 440MHz.

*Update 2020/08/25* - user 'KiwiSDR' pointed out here (https://swling.com/blog/2020/08/the-rx888-sdr-up-close-photos/#comment-648804) to a much more plausible explanation for the super cheap LTC2208 ADCs from China: they are salvage parts from discarded equipment, and therefore they should meet all the specifications from the manufacturer datasheet.

One interesting thing about this LTC2208 ADC is that it sells for about $80 (in 2,000 quantity) here in the US, however several sellers on AliExpress offer it for a very discounted price (from $11 to about $30). I am not sure why this large price difference (the LTC2209 and LTC2217 for instance do not seem to have such deep discounts on there); it is possible that these LTC2208's do not meet all the specifications from LT/AD, and therefore are sold so cheap. If this were true (and I honestly don't know), perhaps the maximum sample rate is less than 130Msps (on the other hand these designs only use them at 32Msps max, and therefore they are not really getting close to the maximum sample rate), or perhaps the SNR is lower, or going back to my initial sentence, the full power bandwidth might not reach 700MHz. This said, there might be other reasons for the price difference, so these LTC2208's might be perfectly OK.

Finally I did some quick research, and found out that undersampling is already used at least in another SDR - the ColibriNANO - according to their site it can undersample up to 500MHz (although it looks like its maximum output sample rate after decimation is just 3Msps); the way they do it is by allowing the user to disable the low-pass filter in front of the ADC (of course you have to make sure to insert your own band-pass filter between the antenna and the SDR); unfortunately I do not think these SDRs derived from the BBRF103 allow that.

Hello,

There are quite a few Forms and sub-Forums which have no interest for me.

How, please do I unsubscribe from them such that I don't receive an eMail
every time there is a new
Post to any of them ?

Same basic question: How do i sign up for eMail notifications for only the
ones i want ?

I read, I think, that the GroupsIO Posts can or will be mirrored to this
site.
True ? If so, how ?

Thanks,
Bob
