Re: Windows 10 update 20H1 a.k.a. 20-04 weirdness

Simon Brown

Hi,

I would also suggest that it’s not a Windows bug, rather Windows may have fixed / changed something which exposed a bug in other software.

VAC & similar software really could do with some ‘loving’.

Subject: [SDR-Radio] Windows 10 update 20H1 a.k.a. 20-04 weirdness

I allowed Windows Update to apply the 20H1 / 20-04 service pack yesterday.

Now when I open the Windows Sound Settings, specifically the Advanced Sound Options down at the bottom that brings up individual routing and volume control for each running program, it fritzes out the audio going into Virtual Audio Cable. Weirdly, when I hit the back arrow to return to the main Windows Sound generic Settings screen the audio cleans up. Then when I close the window altogether the sound disappears again.

I tested this by playing a 1004Hz tone into a V.A.C. which was feeding VSThost for audio processing. I looped the playback and each time it would start the file from the beginning again I’d hear a brief burst of tone that rapidly fuzzed out, then silence until it looped again.

Restarting the VAC driver cleared it up. Nothing else did.

So this Windows Update messed with something in the audio system, which lines up with reports on the SDR-Console group as well.

I suspect Eugene will need to check to see what Microsoft did and respond accordingly. I’ll run some more tests and see what’s up and report it to him.

finding the clock should be easy ... but replacing it is difficult in some sdr (depends on size and distance to other parts)

and sure such moddings is not for 85+ years old ... nearly blind ... and with a tremor (just kidding)

I see from the videos what can be done with a GPS locked receiver, but how do you get the R2 locked?  I have an HF+ and Airspy TS tells me there is no way to directly GPS lock it.

Ray,

The R2 includes a 10 MHz GPSDO input which you can lock with a device like:

 http://www.leobodnar.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=107&products_id=301

(also available in the USA).

How?  Switch off, connect GPSDO, plug in.

The HF+ series don't include an external lock input

AirSpy and AirSpy R2 are 50 MHz to 1750 MHz devices and have 10 MHz GPS reference inputs. The HF+ models do not.

Hi,

If you have an ELAD DUO transceiver then I’m now ready for testing. It seems to work on sideband and AM…

Hi,

The logfile tells me you have R3.0.6 installed. Get the very latest firmware, install it. If signals are still very weak then I would look at the antenna connector, if all looks good then the unit may be poorly .

Re: Freeze on launch - HELP! reset...

Simon Brown

Hi,

Please explain “Neither permitted launch with operation” – I’m thinking we have a bad installation here.

How about forcing a reinstall of the C++ runtime?

https://www.sdr-radio.com/download scroll down to bottom then up a page, you see C++ Redistributables. It’s the 2013 redistributable that may be the problem, but I honestly think it’s something like this.

The program comes up with the "box" that shows the graphic + SDR version info.
Then if I click on anything, the box goes away, and the program screen does nothing.
Can not close it - have to use the Task Manager to kill the process.

Went and did the two "reset" options.
Neither permitted launch with operation.

Attached is what I see. The box will go away if I click, but nothing responds...
