Hi, Paul - it seems that this (and: these) filters are truly British ...

I have this one directly from Heros: https://www.herostechnology.co.uk/pages/RF_Filters.html
and badly needed it for e.g. LimeSDR. In Germany, all MW stations have closed down. But for serious MW DXing, I now need a low pass filter for - medium wave! This is because there is some breakthrough from shortwave, here Radio Romania around sunset. Heros is also offering it, and I am very satisfied with both their products and their service ...

Re: DXLabs and V3 Issue

This is exactly the same problem I have with V3 and my Embarcadero Delphi user interface. Tooltips quit working.
My guess is a bug down deep in Windows that we have to live with and now know that we didn’t cause it ourselves.
Cheers.

Dick,

Interesting comment – testing here and tooltips in Chrome, Edge, Windows Explorer and Visual Studio 2013 work OK. If I start a second instance of V3 the tooltips work OK in the second instance as well.

To diagnose the program really involves tracing down through DXLabs code and into the Windows code – can be done.

My only suggestion – I use DirectX graphics which is not common.

I've recently come across an interaction issue between V3 and DXLabs SpotCollector and DXKeeper.  The issue is that the tooltip popups in the data bases shown by the two DXLab programs disappear when V3 is running.  Here are a few details:

  • I'm using build V3 845 and a SDRPlay1 connected to the receive out of my radio as a  panadaptor.  (A great one, BTW)
  • When V3 is started, the data tooltip popups in those two DXLabs programs disappear.  For example, a tooltip in SpotCollector will inform whether the DX has been worked before, on what band, and so forth.
  • No other tooltips are effected in DXLabs or any other program.
  • If I close V3, the tooltips reappear.
  • I've tried V2 and at least one earlier version of V3.  The issue doesn't occur with V2, but does seem to appear with all versions of V3.
  • I've had several exchanges with Dave Bernstein, AA6YQ, of DXLabs and he believes that there is an interaction between V3 and a commercial control called "True DBGrid Pro" that he uses to manage the spot and QSO data bases.  ( https://www.componentsource.com/product/componentone-true-dbgrid-pro)

I realize that in the great scheme of things this is a corner case, but I (and Dave) spent quite a bit of time getting to this understanding and I felt it should be reported.

Only V3 uses DirectX. Sending e-mail to ComponentSource really doesn’t help – best to leave it IMO.

Simon,

Thank so much for your quick response.

I'm not surprised you couldn't see it.  Every tooltip I've looked at with the exception of those I mentioned worked fine.

To follow up on the DirectX suggestion, did version V2 not use DirectX?

One last data point if I start the program without selecting an SDR, the issue doesn't occur.  As soon as I click "start" on V3, then the SpotCollector data tooltips are gone.

I'll pass this info back to Dave, but I am guessing that this is going to be a dead end.  He doesn't have access to source code for the True DBGrid Pro code.  I'll also sent an email to ComponentSource tech support, but since ham radio isn't really their target market, I don't have high hopes.

Thanks,
Dick

Ray,

Both the RSP1 and the RSP2 are only capable of USB 2.0 speeds, not USB 3.0.  The receptacle on both units is Type B USB 2.0 and is not compatible with a Type B USB 3.0 cable.  I own and use both of those radios.

If you're seeing a speed increase with your new PC it's likely because of superior overall performance compared to your previous computer, not because of any USB 3.0 data transfer speeds.  The mere fact that you've plugged your RSP1 into a USB 3.0 Type A port on your computer doesn't mean you're utilizing USB 3.0 speeds.

Mark,

I agree that it's certainly not USB 3.0 speeds, but I have seen improvements in other USB 2.0 devices (e.g. memory sticks and SD card readers) when their USB 2.0 ports accessed through a USB 3.0 connection.

We also found in the past that not all USB 2.0 ports were created equal - I recall Renesas being better.

Of course USB 3.0 is now looking dated compared to USB C.....

I still think 160m band is flat and has been for most of the year.  I have seen very little on the band i was quite surprised to hear ssb from an english speaking station tonight, no call sign given so it could have been anyone.. That was all i hear

So where would a 200m beverage antenna resonate.  Only asking because it seems a curious length for 160m band.
