you never heard of the mchf???
www.m0nka.co.uk
chris changed the design when changing from 0.6 to 0.7
version of his boards
i liked more the older design 0.3 to 0.6 boards (we
started out project group with 0.4 version)
the firmware now has so many functions it is a bit to
much to name them all here
but when you campare an mchf with old firmware with one
with actual firmware you have two completely different
radios ... newest firmware has such a nice noise reduction
that it is nearly as good as prachextractor lingua, bhi
noise surpression speaker or similar (jps nir 10 or 12 as
another example) ...
i can really dig out a signal that is barely readable in
the noise
if you prefer cw ... a nice peak filter helps to lift up
a tiny signal (no ringing!) ... etc etc
just wait a bit till we have finished the backend for the
ovi40sdr (that is the mchf with turbo ... grin)
frontend is finished (ui board) and can be used with the
rf board of mchf (backwards compatible) ... new rf board
will have more power and better filters (still in alpha
stage)
cause the firmware is open source and there is a
programming community now of over a dozen programmers
there is sometimes 2 or 3 versions of new firmware a
day!!! the fw is RUNNING forward in seven miles boots
what i like is that you need no pc anymore for digital
modes ... just a (wireless) keyboard
size of mchf with battery pack included is like a tetra
pack (1l milk or juice box)
when you need some more infos (besides what you find with
google) drop me a direct mail

HI
Siegfried,
MCHF? I do not know it; "muscled" seems vy
interesting, keep me informed pse.
I also used a Archos 7", android 4, with companion
bluetooth keyboard shell, otg cable, the FT-817, two
cell phone 10Ah power packs with some homebrewed USB
adapters to put them in series for the rig. Nice,
small and light system.

Thanks Mats for the
Infos! Very appreciated.
I knew about the controller in the battery,
since Zenith Pentium2 black&white laptops
years ago, hi ...
Anyway, many laptops I had these times ran
without battery no problems; and some these
times had a 12V NiCd battery so I used them no
problem with the direct connection to a car
battery.
But today the laptops are of course a lot much
complex. I will try that old laptop, then see
what will happen.
The pairing with an FT-817 seems me very
actractive: a laptop running FT817 commander or
even HRD and a small giant like the FT-817 may
be very interesting, specially with digimodes or
cw.

Hi.
Many modern laptops "talks" with the PSU over the
DC cable to adjust optimal performance and
charging settings, depending on the capacity of
the power brick. Also many laptop batteries
contains a microcontroller that reports some data
about status, capacity and often including serial
number.
I have a not so fresh HP laptop that, after some
upgrade simply refused to charge in the docking
station, and i gave up after fiddling with it for
some time.
The same power brick fitted directly in the
computer works well.
SO, you may bump into unforeseen problems when
trying an alternative powersupply or battery, in
order to reduce the RFI.
